| just now seeing this. I first thought it was gonna be just a recap of season 1, but I was happy to see a couple minutes of "new" material with that time skip. Opened up so many questions though. Obviously not all the boys are playing softball tennis anymore. Nao(the kid who had the psycho helicopter mom) still seems super depressed because he had to stop playing? They showed most of the cast separated, wonder if they are still friends or if the team breaking up caused them to be alienated from one another? Sad to bee that the Tsubasa and Shingo duo seems to have broken up. Tsubasa is still playing tennis but looked frustrated. Shingo is going to military school??? Couldn't recognize who those two guys were in that scene with Maki and also Kanako because of how badly drawn they were lol. I think one of them was Yuuta? Also, I'm guessing Maki didn't end up murdering or nearly murdering his father, unless he went to juvie and got a short sentence or something. Maybe Touma intervened and now that's why they resent one another? COuld also explain that huge scar on Touma's arm. Wish we could get some kinda sequel in the form of a manga or LN. Of course we'd have to rely on fan-translations, but it be better than nothing. |

And Touma and the twins? What mistake did Touma's teammate keep making? I wonder if a similar mistake is responsible for Touma's scar. I feel like he tried to stop Maki from committing a crime and ended up with the scar. To be honest, I don't want a time skip. I want to know what happened right after the events of episode 12. I really hope we get season 2!! |

However, seeing as how it was originally planned to be a 2-cour season, I'm sure there's some material leftover that would've been in a potential Season 2. Sales? Unfortunately, while I don't have exact numbers (not all of the volumes of the DVD/Blu-Rays have been released anyway), it hasn't sold all that well thus far. Rights and release? I'm sure the director could receive permission to continue the story on his own if he desired. He has stated that the story will continue in some form, just not necessarily in the form of an anime. |

| This is just a trailer or some kind of teaser right? Heard the director is planning to continue the show in one way or another. I already saw this a while ago and didn't know people actually considered this short movie a "sequel" to it. It looks more like a PV than anything. I didn't even watch it that seriously since there are no subs. |

| I understood none of it but this made me realize again how shafted this anime got. Like it had issues, I won't deny that, but just seeing this as a where it could've gone, it legitimately seems like it could've been something amazing in the second half. Kazuki Akane-san has a fairly active social media presence where he discussed at length the future of Hoshiai no Sara (Star's Align). To summarize his remarks in regards to a potential sequel: "Unfortunately there are no plans to produce more episodes after episode 13. I'm very sorry to say that I still haven't found a production company or a company willing to fund the production of the sequel to "Stars Align," however, I am preparing to make episodes 13 to 24 someday." To summarize (and adjust his language to be slightly more clear) his remarks in regards to the Special Fan Movie [the YouTube video posted by OP]: "The "Stars Align" Special Fan Movie was made up of scenes taken from the scenes of episode 13 that I had completed [before production stopped]. I plan to make it so that you can understand episode 12, the story of Maki and Toma, and why two the story skips two years once you watch episode thirteen. There is no planned movie for "Stars Align," but I will try to show it [sic] to my fans someday." *** To give some additional context: Hoshiai no Sora was fairly popular outside of Japan and internationally, but domestically it was a commercial flop. 8bit cut production half way through the series which is why the 1st cour ends on an unresolved cliff hanger. It's nice to see though that the creator is still interested and passionate in continuing the project, and TBS still has all the Hoshiai no Sora branding on their webpage with a nice production note that roughly translates to: "Please continue to watch for future development." Akane-san's twitter is interesting and probably the first place you will hear of future developments of the series (whether that be in TV, movie, or manga form). That being said, at this stage I would call a future screen adaptation unlikely. |
