i’ve seen what’s available for the anime (or donghua) and the manhua, and i’m considering watching the live action show too. i’m not too big on reading books, and i don’t know if a translated version of the novel would be as good, so i don’t know if i’ll read the novel. as of season 2, how far is it into the novel? same with the untamed, if anyone knows.

Untamed made some heavy changes to the plot in the beginning and the Chinese TV does not allow morally grey protags, but considering all that, the later part is still adapted more or less faithfully.

In the novel the flashbacks are peppered all over the story while the donghua adapted them in season 1. As far as fan translations go, the novel is quite good and now is a prefect time to buckle down and give it a read I'd say ))

Definitely agree with above that the novel is a great read you should give it a try.

Here is an analysis haha I think this is probably generally right. Coz I have too much time on my hands haha

S1, E 1-2 (present timeline) = novel chapters 1-10

S1, E 3-6 (flashback timeline, up until WWX is kicked out of Gusu) = novel chapters 11-18

S1, E 7 is basically filler, the archery competition discussion conference was only briefly mentioned in the book, but the scene of Wei Wuxian snatching off Lan Wangji's forehead ribbon is described in novel chapter 45

S1, E 8-15 (flashback timeline) = novel chapters 51-62

S2, present timeline = novel chapters 19-27

S2, flashback timeline = novel chapters 69-78

Since we know Season 3 is starting with the present timeline Yi City arc, Season 3 will pick up content starting with novel Chapter 28. BTW, if you were confused about the flashbacks in S2 at all, and you don't wanna read the whole novel, maybe try reading just that flashback arc covered in chapters 69-78, it's definitely worth it.

How much content do you think the final season will skip? Since there are still two big gaps to complete
