DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Hmm, kinda interesting they decided to give throw in more background story about Seigi, even meeting a karate friend of his. Such a small world. A pretty standard episode that deals with an opal. They're really exploring all types of jewelry in show with every possibility by the looks of it. I wonder what else they've yet to show. |

| Glad that Seigi didn't save the day. Why did they cut out the ed song? That's literally the best part about this anime! I wonder how often people spill unnecessary information in Ricahrd's shop. Probably a lot, since he ended up developing the ability of deduction. Subplots make characters more interesting and fleshed out, but somehow, the subplot with the girl makes Seigi kind of boring. Seigi is more interesting and fun when the girl is absent. I liked the senpai. Hope he returns soon. |
| This show impresses me once again. What an absolute scumbag Seigi's senpai is, he went from accusing Richard being racist to disrespecting him and his workplace to threatening him. I'm super glad Richard stayed calm and indirectly called him out on what he's doing is wrong with the opal losing its colors. Seigi shouldn't cry for what happened with this jerk, Richard was hella nice for giving him support and that his mindset is admirable through Richard's eyes. |

Subplots make characters more interesting and fleshed out, but somehow, the subplot with the girl makes Seigi kind of boring. Seigi is more interesting and fun when the girl is absent. Yeah, Tanimoto so far has added little to the plot other than having an interest in gemstones and existing for Seigi to have a crush on her. Even though Seigi is working for a jeweler, the anime kinda makes it seem like he has an ulterior motive of wanting to eventually become romantic with her, rather than sharing her hobby/interest in gemstones. It's just kinda shallow and boring to watch. Not sure where the anime is gonna go with them. I'm more interested in seeing Seigi and Richard's relationship develop. 5 episodes in, Richard is still a mystery. I'm hoping the episodes will eventually stop with the "gemstone mystery of the week" formula so the story can focus more on Richard's background or something. Tbh, his character is the only reason I haven't dropped this anime yet. I did feel bad for Seigi, having to deal with the reality that his Senpai is an awful person, but it still hasn't been enough to completely win me over in liking him a lot as an mc. |

| This episode was kind of depressing. I thought it was going to be wholesome, about Seigi's reunion with an important friend from the past. That they would keep in touch this time after drifting away once, but it ended up in such a way that it wouldn't be weird if they never saw each other again. His senpai had to drop out of college and work to support his father, sister, and possibly his mother. Then there was the whole deal with the opal being exposed, and he could finally be honest with Seigi, saying that it was even painful to see him in the end. That hurt a bit to be honest. Seigi wanted to help him, but there was nothing he could do. The ending was wholesome if the episode wasn't though. Seigi realized how lucky he is to have met Richard by chance, and even felt grateful to those drunkards who made it possible. He couldn't regain the bond he had with his senpai, but he isn't alone. |

| Seigi failed to be a hero today because his friend turned out to be a wicked and manipulative person, beyond salvation. He suffered a huge disapointment. I love the way Richard acts so calm in situations like that... And he was so considerate by taking Seigi to ride on his car in such a sad moment! Nice ep! |

| So the gemstone of the week is the fiery opal. Seigi has a chance encounter with his senpai, a person he looked up to since middle school at a karate tournament. It turns out that his senpai was trying to sell the opal that was mistakenly given to him by a person who had dementia to help with his financial situation of taking care of his family. Poor Seigi didn't have the courage to tell his senpai that he worked at the same Jeweler his senpai was trying to sell the gem to. |

| This was the best episode so far!!! It was so beautiful! Seigi learns that life isn't as colorful as he thinks it is. The ending was reaaaally cute!!! Richard comforting Seigi was the best scene so far! It made me cry. I'm really hoping those two get together. This episode made my heart feel warm. It made me think that life may let you down sometimes, people may disappoint us... Still, life goes on. |

I think it was his own guilt that made him behave so aggressively. Like attack is best defense type of thing. He knew what he wasn't doing wasn't quite right and that drove him pointing fingers at others. |

But I believe that when Richard tells Seigi how he feels about him, it will cause Seigi to think for the first time about how he really feels about Richard. Richard will give Seigi a gem to make it official. =) Then they'll get married and end up happy ever after. /end of fantasy |

| The Opal of Encounters, between Seigi and his senior in the past about karate. It was a mere chance encounter, but a good one riding on their memories. Looks like he's looking for a jeweler for approval to coincide with his marriage ring, and YET another chance falls in Richard's (and Seigi's) workplace, albeit to the same senior, but with a totally dfifferent persona and agenda instead. And this time, it does not look that Seigi will save the day (as per usual), and this exposes the fire deep within each person's soul, whilst it holds facades even to people close to one another. Despite the losing rainbow in the opal that surrounds this issue, Richard stands out as the gem in shining fluity that helped Seigi find his stand. Hurtful but pleasing episode, genuinely surprised time and time again with this show. |

| Wow, another great episode. I love how each episode is like a miniature drama involving some of the extra characters, some of whom may be one-offs or recurring, but also parallel development for the main characters so they don't just seem like blank slate audience cyphers. A show that can discuss which economic and social market forces shape the industry around gems like the talk of diamonds in the last episode, coupled with familial drama and a kind of young adult coming-of-age story about adapting to a new workplace environment where some hard life lessons have to be learned or witnessed firsthand, but always in a calm atmosphere. Although some scenes can get noticeably tense. It reminds me of a lot of morality plays and dramedies like many family sitcoms from the 50s-90s. A lot of peaceful and lighthearted scenes, can be even relaxing or comedic, but mixed with serious pivotal dilemmas and character-defining moments over real issues. The genre is listed as "Mystery" but in my view this show, while containing elements of mystery in the backstory behind the gems in cases where they're missing/stolen and such, has more of the tone and direction of Drama + Slice of Life (and leaning toward iyashikei SoL at that). Why is this show not being talked about more? I feel like I wouldn't know it even existed if not for being on MAL. I can't imagine the audience for this kind of show is huge, but there are definitely more it would appeal to if given a chance. If it's marketed as more of a thriller or action-based detective story then it's not going to find the right crowd. Five episodes in and I wish it were more popular, more acclaimed/higher rated to increase likelihood of renewal for a season two. And I never say that or care about ratings (also never even used to watch any currently airing seasonals). This is something with a very specific appeal though that its intended audience will look back on years from now and kick themselves that they didn't give it more fanfare when it was airing. I hope it doesn't just end up as something of an obscure "gem" dusted off 15-20 years from now for a niche throwback. Also, it rung very true that his now disgraced former Senpai, although bearing no ill will or dislike/hatred of Seigi, stated he never wanted to see him again. Often one might not want to see someone from their "previous life", whether family members you were closer with growing up, neighbors, former classmates or co-workers, etc., when you know they can't relate to what you're going through currently and want to keep your past/current lives separate. In this case, it obviously seemed to stem from shame that he didn't want Seigi's past image of him further tarnished. Also, one more thing. I know this series is adapted from a novel rather than manga, but does anyone know if it's still something more likely targeted toward Shoujo or Josei demographic bloc? |

| Best episode yet. Segi wasn't annoying and Richard was just his ol calm pure self. This is actually the only episode I've really enjoyed since his grandma episode. |

| I really loved this episode. It had me going back and forth on the senpai. Seigi might be a bit of plonker sometimes and Richard might be a little bit self-righteous but I actually really like both of them and I can't help but want them to end up together. It feels like a subtle romance is developing but I know the anime isn't going there - I'll just have to imagine they end up together myself. |

| I’m really enjoying this show and the way it shows peoples stories in passing through Etranger but Seigi is really coming across as insensitive. He just doesn’t seem to think of other people beyond his own set of values. Hope some character development will fix that as the show goes on |
