| By first series do you mean Mai Otome TV series, or Mai Hime. Mai Hime, you don' t need to see, that had a different storyline, with just the same charaters. This is an OVA of Mai Otome, so it may bel helpful to watch the series, but i guess you may still get it. |

| I wouldn't recomend watching the OVA without seeing the series, noting would make sense and you would miss out on a good anime and spoil the whole thing =P Also I'd recommend watching Mai-Hime cos i think its a good anime and Mai-Otome has many connections and allusions to it. |
