Maoxing's skills impresses me. He's got style flipping that flour in the air.

When he makes cooking look flashy like that, I can't help but cheer for him.

Dim Sum chef is so hot! I kinda want cloth-destroying effect from Soma on a hot guy like him, though the show goes with minimalist effect. However he doesn't disappoint me when he suddenly take off his shirt and show his lickable muscle!

I love Shell, and his first contact with Mao here was way more agreeable than the one in the first anime, because if I remember it right, he broke stuff around the restaurant like a madman. lol And I didn't like the new character design at first, but I'm in love with it already. Shell is as hot as ever, and I have been waiting for the moment he takes off his shirt to use his Steel Staff as soon as the episode started. lol And I like the OP, and the ED too. The OP feels like a nice recap.

The pace felt weird though, and I still think Mao "only" won in the creative department. I might be wrong, but it didn't seem like his shumai had enough skin to wrap all of the filling, and I'm not sure every single part of the pig is really tasty. But well, even Shell accepted his defeat, who am I to question it? And I don't remember that scene with Meili wondering if she is good enough to be Mao's partner. I sure hope she gets more spotlight this time around, and I already can't wait for Shell to appear again, I mean, for the next episode.

A better episode than the first one. Man, I'm having a blast with this show.

Definitely one of my anime of the season candidates so far.

I just cannot seem to stay awake properly on this show, I've tried even mixing energy drink with espresso, but shit!

No matter how I look at it, this is boring. But I'll stick around so it can be my sleeping pill, or maybe it will improve.

This episode compresses Episode 21 -23 of the old show.

This episode is better than the first one. However, It still fails to catch the charm of the old show.
The reactions, cooking detail, reactions is not as exaggerated as I wanted it to be.

It seems that this anime removed that one thing that made the original anime shine,
Exaggerating everything to the point it is very entertaining.

You need at least five to ten hours to properly cook a shumai that large. I like Shell's shumai more but a shumai with different parts of the pork sounds good. I remember this mini arc being one of my faves in the original series. They compressed it here. I love dimsum and shumai is definitely one of my faves.

It said than the anime is a sequel, but no we already see that in the first adaptation. The first anime is better. At least, we got a end in that serie.

I don't know...being someone who has watched the entire '97-’98 series, and while following the sequel manga frame by frame, it just doesn't seem wholesome as the one from 20 years ago. It is a very considerable nitpick though and @kazthehack I echo very same feelings.

Seeing Steel-Rod Shell in action is good though Mao trounced him like usual, you know, after the Super Chef arc that made him level with pro chefs. But regardless in this "new" age of Mao a.k.a post Episode 18, shall press on into what the new technology can provide.

Considering that this ONE episode encompasses the entire (close to finishing) Volume 1 of the manga, I was legit surprised at how much info they could cramp whilst following the footsteps of the source material.

We need more extravagant exaggeration, otherwise this is kinda boring.

I don't understand, but it feels like the first anime was different. I'm not used to see Mao in a flash or bright graphics. Is it only me noticed that the art was very bright? I think I'd prefer the old ones rather than this. Maybe I'd prefer if the anime started to the next arc where the first anime ended. But nonetheless, I'd still continue watching this series. I'm very curious on how the sequel will turn. Maybe somewhere midway, I would love the sequel rather than the old ones. But for now, my favor's still for the first anime. It's like I'm watching another Berserk lol.

Shell was my favorite character in the original anime series so I’m very glad to see him again.

The Mao vs Shell battle was condensed into one episode here, so it felt rushed.
I guess this anime version is going to be a lot more condensed in general. The original anime felt too slow while this version feels too fast.

More like 50+ pounds its a whole pig delicacy from head to toe except the bones after all the meats is carved off the rib butcher. I feel like the original episode is better showing the stakes and struggle . Mao might be the first humble respectful creative protagonist that's not airhead obnoxious airhead delinquent or too cool like yami yugi that never loses ever.

Mmm, yeah, definitely had that rushed feeling to it. It kinda felt like they were just regurgitating plot points and ignoring everything else. I hope they slow down soon.

The animation style........... just isn't the same as the original.
So rushed. the original broke it down to two episodes, they just crammed it into one.
Its a real shame.

Damn, I have never expected to watch an anime like Shokugeki no Souma again.
I wonder why it isn't popular.

Definitely more rushed than the original, omitting some details like how Mei didn't recognize the stir fry was different from how Mao usually cooks. I like the change that Shell doesn't throw any tantrum, makes him more likeable and less of a destructive prick.
