how do the fight rules work?

It seems you can have as many join when ever you want and you win by beating the entire team...but some times it's 3 players with some reserved and others it's 5 like how does it work?

The goal is to kill the enemy leader. The game works by creating a deck of 10 fighters, you are given a hand of 4 fighters each round in groups of two. You attack twice each of your turns with the exception being the fist player to go only attacks once the first turn. the characters all have different skill and attack in a line indicated by arrows. When the arrows line up with allies on the field they form what is called an art chain and attack together, this is limited only to however many allies connect together by their attacks. You can kill off the enemy fighters usually it's possible clear the enemy's field in only turn with well placed fighters. Once all 9 fighters in the deck have appeared in your hand all fighters shown before get shuffled back into the deck so you can use them again even if they were killed before and you can have multiple copies of the same fighters. The leaders are stuck in the bottom center of the field and can only attack fighters next to them they have 3,000-3,500 HP depending on your deck. You can place fighters from your hand to the field in any open slot on the field but you can't move them once they are placed. There are 12 slots on the field for fighters (including 2 for the leaders). Your turn ends once you place your second fighter. You win when the enemy leader is 0 HP. It is a draw once no new fighters can be placed on the field during a player's turn.
