Why is this listed as a sequel to the tv series?

They changed stuff in the movies. In the interview with the staff, they say that this isn't a sequel to the tv series.

Good question, although I think the answer is easy. It's not strictly a sequel to the TV series, if we take every single detail into account, but seems to work well enough for people who watched the show, at least those who went to the conventions and saw it even without knowing the all finer details of the changes from the recaps.
