Okay, so I watched the anime and read Angel Eyes and Garden of Light.
And I think the character of Akira is pretty important. The exact reminder of Ash Eiji needed to move on.
My question being: has anyone noticed any further connections and/or contrasts between Akira and Ash other than listed below?

- their names have the same meaning - dawn
- Eiji mistaked Akira for a boy when they first met, while Ash could pass for a pretty girl (and he did make a gorgeous female nurse at one point^^)
- Akira leaves Japan determined to grow up and seduce Sing, while Ash had been seducing people his whole life without intending to or enjoying so
- both Akira and Ash are suffering because of other people's expectations; Akira hates herself for not being the son her father had wanted, while Ash hates himself for being too much like the successor Papa Dino intended to raise

that's very interesting I haven't thought about that, but they do have a lot of similarities
