bruh

Also for some reason I thought Subaru's personality was a result of being orphaned, but here it's showed he was like that before, lends extra depth to his character.

The feels came strong in this one lol

Didn't expect this to be so sad. And that cat can see ghosts?

The cats thoughts were disappointing. I thought there would be some deeper meaning behind it, but it simply tried to chase the ghosts...

Would have been a nice touch if the cat at least recognised the ghosts with the pictures it saw. But nope. Looks like this cat is too stupid / simple minded.

At first, I didn't feel sorry for Subaru because honestly I thought he was just an asshole. I lost my father too, never met my mother since she passed away when I was still a baby so I know the pain of losing one's parent or parents.

Even before they were revealed, I knew those pink clouds were his parents because in other Anime and manga they often portrayed the spirits as spiral-y clouds of various colors lol for example in Dragon Ball, there were a couple of episodes where Goku and the others interacted with those clouds in the afterlife.

That end where the pink clouds turned into his parents and thank Haru-chan made me cry again. TTT___TTT

I'm late coming to this anime, as it's already finished it's run.
But, oh, am I ever so glad that I decided to check it out!

They've all been powerful so far, but this ep definitely didn't pull any punches.
Subaru didn't have clue why Haru was behaving the way she was, so her knocking over his parents' shrine hit him hard. And he wasn't happy with her behaviour when he opened up his parents' room.

But after he glances through one of his mother's photo albums that Haru had knocked down, and realizes just how much they had planned their trips around his interests and his inability to deal with people... he'd always complained that no one considered his feelings. Now he realizes how wrong he was in thinking that, and realizes that he didn't consider their feelings himself. Breaking down at that point, yes, that's just what would occur.

And then Haru comes over, being concerned about his behaviour, and tries to comfort him. And he responds. He actually reaches out to her, to express some feeling of his own.

All of that was way cool.

Then we see things from Haru's perspective.
I've been aware for decades of the idea that cats, dogs, etc., can see things we can't; no clue as to whether there is any truth to this, but it's a common belief amongst their advocates.
So, when we were shown that Haru saw two... whispy ethereal things moving through the air, clearly controlling their flight, and Haru considers them a threat and chases after them to drive them away fro Subaru... well, my immediate thought was, "These are the spirits of Subaru's parents, who are concerned for him, and sticking round because of that concern."
So when they dove into their photos at the shrine, that to me was confirmation of that thought.

Which made their expending the effort to fully realize in Haru's sight at the end, to thank her for taking on the task of watching over Subaru, prior to going on to wherever spirits go when their lingering regrets have been dealt with (um, yes, I did watch Yuuna earlier on) all the more bitter sweet.

Yes, I cried. Several times, in fact, as we dealt with the day through both of their perspectives.

A side note: I, too, was very withdrawn as a youth.
But that had changed by the end of high school; a friend who was several grades ahead of me, who attended my graduation, after she had hugged me, looked at me and said words to the effect of, "When I first met you, if someone hugged you, you would stiffen up and pull away. You just hugged me back."
That change was the result of many people reaching out to me; in my case, that proved to ultimately be successful.

It doesn't always work that way. It didn't for Subaru.
But... I think there is hope for him now.
His interactions with Haru, his having pushed himself to go out and get food for her when they were out, his forcing himself to interact with the pet store owner to the extent that he has to date, his looking outside of himself enough to think of offering his cat lover editor the opportunity to feed Haru... all of these are a sea change in his life.

I'm very much looking forward to viewing the remaining episodes, to see how things progress.
Yes, I did read the series reviews before posting this, so I do have some idea as to where things go.
And, to the ones who don't see an overall plot or storyline... you are blind.
There _is_ an overarching storyline, everything is building upon what has been shown before, it's all relevant.
Yes, it's SoL.
But it's SoL with a clear progression, where everything does end up being of relevance in the long run.

And the art and music is perfect for this story.
This really is a masterwork in my mind; it's the only anime I've given a 10 to date.

Really love how they're playing with the different perspectives, quite the sad backstory, but really good to have it in this episode as it's the perfect placement in terms of character development. Really looking forwards to see what's next.

This was a sad yet beautiful chapter, I was on the verge of crying through the entire chapter until the ghost of his parents appeared thanking Haru, that was when I cried.

I'm loving this anime.

Pretty enjoyable and emotional episode, I really liked it. I hope that after this realization, Subaru's character can become more likeable from now on.

So Haru able to see "spirits" of Subaru's parents

Awww the ending is nice even though they misunderstood each other
And Subaru's parents finally go to heaven peacefully

It's nice to see someone so dedicated to pet Haru xD

We all know that cats can do that! xD

This is getting closer and closer to real life :D

And finally Subaru is getting a bit more human, that poor editor does not deserve his scorn. Too bad in the end he didn't realise Subaru was about to open up a little bit, but I understand him, I would have actually paid attention to the cat as well!
And I also loved his reaction when Haru scratched him: It's not her fault, it's mine!

It was a very sweet episode. The scene where Subaru was in the room and looked and these pictures was pretty sad but it was sweet to see that the cat cares about Subaru in their own way.
I really enjoy seeing both pov‘s.

Seems like he hasn’t gone inside his parents’ room since their death. Their spirits seemed to have remained in the house, until the cat chased them away. Seems like their spirits can finally rest in peace.
