I think the ending was intended to be open to some interpretation, but everything leading up to the ending suggests it was the end of their journey. However, I will believe that this end is just the beginning of a new world for them, based on the last illustration. I love the way this story was told, it felt abstract and bittersweet. I don't feel that it was boring or that it did a poor job explaining the world, but rather it focused on a broader message about views on a life of hopelessness/emptiness. Explaining major details like the war or the aliens was never the point, and I'd go as far to say it would've soured the experience. Keeping in mind that this is still from the perspective of 2 young children, I think it was truly a fantastic read. No regrets buying all 6 volumes.

they kept coping and gaslighting themselves into no regrets when clearly staying at the library was the best choice for them. i pity these foolish girls with conceited smugness.

I cried in this last chapter. Indeed, Girls' Last Tour is an allegory to life. I remember in Chapter 1 that they come from the dark facility where there's nothing and then a light appears. They go outside and see the beauty of the starry night like they are born. The birth of their adventure. They met different people and places like what we experience in life. In Chapter 46. They go again to the dark staircase and move to the top where they find nothing. Indeed, it is like a metaphor for death. If you die, there will be nothing. Truly, this is a masterpiece. Tsukumizu gave us a hidden gem.

I cried myself to sleep after finishing the manga. It was 4.30 am when I finished it, and I was crying so much that my eyes started hurting, and I was having trouble breathing because I felt like I was going to suffocate. I love Yuuri and Chito so much from the bottom of my heart, and I'm grateful to experience this masterpiece of manga and anime. Girls Last Tour will have a special place in my heart forever. Now I listen to the OP, ED, and the song of Raindrops every day because they are masterpieces, and it's even more heart-wrenching listening to them after finishing the manga because you know what those lyrics meant (:

Well this made me sad, After their journey they had nowhere to go but atleast they were together till the end. Sad yet heartwarming at the same time. I hope I can tackle life with as much optimism and curiosity as Chito and Yuuri :).

I believe this is not the end for them. The black stone is some sort of machine. When Yu asks "What's that?", Chi says "Seems like some black stone." and then Yu replies with "Is it just a stone, or....". I think the author is implying that the black stone is not exactly what it seems. Even in the last panel you can see to left strange markings starts to appear on the black surface similar to machine code. The extra chapter takes place right after this as you can see Chi and Yu sleeping and the shadows are at exactly the same place. Notice not much of the black stone is revealed currently. Then the camera pans out, we some other parts of the city and then when we come back, a large part of the stone is uncovered and a machine code pattern is glowing. THEY ARE STILL ALIVE.

none of that "they never woke up" bs.

i rest my case.

it was fine, i really didn't felt much about anything that happened, what was the message? is there even one?
that war is bad and eventually will be the end of human kind?
that we should be kind to all beings, no matter how different these may be?
that life is a journey and not a destination?
that life is meaningful due to its finite nature and for it to be eternal would turn it into punishment?

why they even wanted to reach the highest stratum?
it feels ... forced, like, the author gave the characters some destination with nothing really in it
in order to magnifiy the sense of lost, specially since it was well established that chito was a smart girl
and see both of them constantly moving forward despite not having a time limit, not knowing what they would find, having being told that
they were the last two remaining humans and having found an AI that may have answers to questions like "what is at the highest stratum? are there any more people still alive? any locations where theres still be food?"
its nonsensical
or maybe the author was trying to convey that the girls were willing to risk their lives in order to satisfy their curiosity?
but still, im not really satisfied, i also found the art to be lacking in detail with very simple characters and even simpler buildings

Saw a YouTube comment that said that the grandpa probably hoped that rockets would still be going to outer space near the top level that could take the girls to another planet. However, as we saw in close-to-final chapters, all rockets had already lifted off and there was nothing more left other than a decaying, broken rocket. The girls were too late to go for a rocket trip.

I personally also think that the grandpa aside from this, wanted to give the girls a drive, a will to live. So he sent both on a journey to the top. That way, the girls can have a reason to cling to life.
