idk much about history so am wondering how accurate is this anime to what actually happened? are any of the characters real?

Well, in the 6th episode

But yes, the Battle of Tsushima Island in 1274 actually happened. Maybe not exactly how it was in the anime, but it actually happened and of course the island exists, too.

Yeah Basically this story happened but it's like making up a detailed event of what according to history was a mere Battle in Tsushima.
I mean the last words in Chapter 12 are basically what's in History. Also the Battle of So and 80 soldiers.
