| Just caught up and I think this series is legitimately awful. It runs on empty violence/sex and bullshit. None of the characters are interesting and all the good will it had the first 14 chapters got wiped away after all the dragon ball screaming. I see this series compared to Fire Punch a lot, but that series was actually ambitious with a great follow through. It subverted expectations and it actually had a lot of things to say about fatalities, religion, and fate. Chaotic and messy for sure, but there was always an end goal/underlying message. But Grashros is so surface level? There's nothing here and it's a huge step down from Kamisama no Iutoori and even Billion Dogs. (Especially cutting to modern day for half a chapter just to have a sex joke punchline? wtf) It's such a quick read most of the time so I'll be keeping up to date but hopefully the author can turn it around. |

It really is awful. I feel bad for the artist, because the artwork looks awesome, but the writing is such a pile of trash. The dragon ball screaming was where everything started to go downhill and there hasn't been a single chapter since then, where I thought "Okay, this was actually good.". There was one, where for a moment I thought it could be good. The cave painting with the modern day scene... before I knew it was just a stupid sex joke. I was genuinely thinking that the cave painting was Iipin's way of grieving over the death of that woman. I thought "Oh, nice, an emotional moment, finally some good writing again after all the recent crap.". But no, of course not. He was just grieving over the fact that he never got to touch her tits. Wow, just... wow. Kamisama no Iutoori and Billion Dogs are from the same writer, correct? I checked up on them and they seem to have better ratings, but I got to be honest, after reading this trainwreck here I don't really feel like trying out his other works. |
