 Please note that all these scores include some bias in one way or another. I score as a mix of personal preference and objective criticism, which is why a lot of my favorites are 9s and why not all of my 10s are in my favorites. 10: Something I consider nearly perfect. It has no notable flaws in production and held my interest on a personal level. It has either a complete story or a continuing story (i.e. has a sequel). Something I highly recommend to (almost) everyone and legitimately consider a masterpiece and a classic. In order to highlight only the best of the best, I have limited this score to only 42 anime and 5 manga. 9: Falls under one of two categories: 1. Something I enjoyed as much as a 10, but has one or two flaws that detracted from the overall experience (i.e. questionable animation, an incomplete ending), or 2. something I didn't enjoy quite as much as a 10, but still adore. Most of my favorites lie here under category 1. I'd recommend it to people who might have similar tastes to mine, but I understand that others might not appreciate it in the same way I do. 8: A show/manga I love, and I think is high-quality, but I wouldn't consider it a masterpiece or noteworthy, just fantastic. I want to and intend to return to it (or already have), whether through rewatching/rereading parts of it, listening to the soundtrack, watching/reading its sequels, doing a full rewatch/reread, or any other number of methods. A show/manga with this score or higher has my official stamp of quality. 7: I liked it, but I'm not passionate about it. I'd be willing to rewatch it at a social event or have a conversation about it, but I have no desire to seek it out. I may think it's a great show/manga, I just am comfortable putting it behind me without ever returning to it on my own. However, I might watch/read subsequent entries in the franchise. 6: It has more positives than negatives, and I may have liked it to some extent. I might rewatch/reread small parts of it, but not much, and have zero desire to rewatch/reread the full thing, or to watch subsequent entries. Given to shows/manga I think are good in a general sense, but had nothing that hooked me on a personal level. 5: It's an "eh." Either was somewhat boring, was noteworthy neither for its positives nor its negatives, or was a complete mixed bag. Given the choice between rewatching/rereading it or never watching/reading it again, I'll pick the latter. I wouldn't say it was worth watching it the first time. Also given to shorts/one-shots that failed to leave an impression one way or another. 4: Given to shows/manga that either are painfully boring, or have at least one flaw so bad that it ruins the show for me. I can understand why others might like it, but I didn't. 3: This show/manga is objectively bad. Whoever liked it unironically is wrong, and I am willing to argue for it. That being said, there may have been something small I liked that prevented it from dropping further. 2: Little to no redeeming qualities. I like exactly nothing about this show/manga. 1: I want to kill it, not out of anger, but to put it out of its misery. It shouldn't have born. It is fundamentally broken. The world is worse off with it existing. Also given to any anime entry I wouldn't actually qualify as an animated story. |
