| THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER. ---------------------------------------- I really enjoy how much the story changes when we see it from Visha's perspective. It is also interesting to see that she is from what this world calls Russia. My next question would be if she is ethnically German, because Germans were throughout most of Eastern Europe before they were forcibly removed after WWII. The tactics in the chapter doesn't make that much sense to me. Switching from a delaying action to a mobile defense makes sense on the surface, but I don't understand how they could accomplish that with the resources they have. The strategic plan was for Army Group Center to hold so more forces could be added to achieve decisive results in a counterattack. A mobile defense requires the establishment of a reserve that counterattacks a key position to defeat an enemy attack. I wonder how they could establish that reserve while also maintain enough forces in the first lines of defense to prevent a breakthrough. A mobile defense also requires trading space for mobility, but I was lead to believe the location of the Rhine made losing terrain particularly costly. I also don't know why the Republic didn't just use a frontal attack. Creating multiple penetrations across a broad front prevents the Empire from massing its combat power to defeat the penetrations. The the Republic just reinforces success and commits reserves to the penetrations that are successful. The Republic had the numbers, so they might as well have taken advantage of them. |
