i have only watched the anime i have not read the manga.

I am not 100% sure if its canon or not but I read somewhere people saying it's slotted somewhere in Season 2 (2014 series) arcs.

Also not sure if it can be considered officially canon but it can certainly be placed between the final two arcs of the series – Avatar and Alvarez Empire – without any seemingly plot holes.
If you don't want to read the manga, then I'd recommend for you to wait for the 2018 TV series to adapt the rest of the Avatar arc and then watch Dragon Cry.

yep it is definitely between the final arcs in between and the power and transformations were like spoilers I guess

Yeah, I noticed the same. LOL. There were some new powers showing here. I wished I have seen them in the anime instead. Now half of the fun is gone. :(
