This probably have been answered somewhere before, but I haven't found anything concrete. So, does Umaru really transforms when going to chibi mode and back or is it just visual representation of behavior changes that she undergoes? I still have this question because, as I remember, she only "transforms" in front of her brother, so I can't determine if it's because she doesn't want to show actual transformation or the personality change. Also, other characters seems to note the height of the chibi "form" and they don't recognize her as real Umaru. I don't really think it's only just because of personality change. Even if it's spoiler from manga, please answer me.

P.S. I probably look too much into the show I don't really like in the first place, but hey.

Yes. It's actually a super power she has to turn small. But since she wasn't gifted with some sappy back story she never got to become a superhero and became an umaru instead.

Seriously though, I don't think she reeally changed into chibi form and it's more about her aura or something. Like how when she's in her not chibi state it shows that "umaru~" thing and it's all sparkly. But that's that there when she's all relaxed and lazy like so they don't really seem to be the same.. I guess? If that makes sense................. Now instead of analysing Umaru go analyse something worth spending your time on like Bomba's dank hair.

Yeah, Bomba's hair is probably more interesting that the show itself :D Like I said, I don't even know why I got interested in this topic, but it still bugged me for some reason. I too think it's her aura, but as I said, sometimes characters act like she has physically changed, so yeah.

And you have 666 posts thanks to this thread, so that's something :D

Well I think that can be proven by the fact that it's a cartoon! The ultimate cop out answer!!

And time for this thread to also ruin my 666 posts.. Thanks a lot.

Ignoring all the little things that require her to be tiny in chibi mode to work(the extra cushions at the table, Bomber holder her to open that pot, etc), one of the OVAs makes it pretty clear the transformation's physical.

Idon't think she physically transforms.

The 'transformations' are just a physical device used to show the viewer the changes in Umaru's personality and character, not necessarily the physical shape per se.

"The greatness of one's sorrow when parting is the evidence of the deepness of one's love, so if one fears sadness, one wouldn't be able to love anything."

I also incline towards this, but still, I'm not entirely convinced :D

Well, it is reoccurring in season 2 also, which in fact made me think that she really transforms, but it still can be attributed to personality.

She does physically change, Kirie-chan is treating chibi umaru as master, and hot umaru as someone she wants to be friends with (and I suspect lovers too... hehehe ;)
The people who know both of umaru's persons throughout the anime are treating them like separate people because they see two different appearances, only het brother and that annoying white-haired kid know they are the same.

the same goes for me too, especially when Umaru jump out to his brother face. it makes me doubt if she changes physically or not. but well, it's an anime after all.

Yup. Umaru does transform. There is enough evidence to support this. Everyone claiming otherwise haven't seen the show.

All that could be a metaphor you know. Thats why I'm asking. No one has explicitly mentioned in the show that she in fact DOES transform, we can only guess.

Well, since she becomes totally disguised in her small state, it is a physical transformation.

Even her classmates, who constantly spends time with her, can't recognize the transformed state.

Exactly. I get where Begija is coming from, but everyone who finished the first season should remember how Kirie thought the chibi form is Umaru's younger sister. It's a physical transformation, or else everyone in Umaru's social circle is hallucinating.

I also incline towards physical transformation, but the fact that she doesn't transform in front of anyone besides her brother and it hasn't been stated directly in the show, I still have doubts. Like, how does her brother never mentiones her transformation even once? I mean he is annoyed by chibi Umaru already, so I thought he would say something about it.

Let's assume that it isn't a physical transformation. Why does Kirie think Umaru has a younger sister? When Kirie draws manga about 'the Master', it's Umaru in her chibi form. If it's not a physical transformation, could Kirie be hallucinating?

One thing I noticed is that Kirie calls Umaru 'the Master' only when she is a chibi.

That's why I actually think she may be transforming. I think in season 1 we didn't have something like that.

Umaru did say in one episode that it wasn't her intention to act as a different person at school, that it just sorta happend. She said for example that she didn't like anime on school and so on. It is clearly that she is embarrased over her personality and chibi ''mode'', so she continues to keep up the act. Even amoung her friends. Which is understandable.. People usually are somewhat different at school and at home anyway. And her brother seems to understand and respect that.

Her being small might represent her aura, but the show clearly shows that it is a physical change.
