| The definition of parody: an imitation of the style of a particular writer, artist, or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comic effect. Also see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parody So to rephrase the question: Is "In Another World with my Smartphone" an imitation of isekai/harem anime with deliberate exaggeration for comic effect? Well, it does have some deliberate exaggeration and some scenes which seem like deliberate nods to other isekai/harem stories. It seems to be a bit lacking in the satire/irony department, but I do think it offers some commentary on the tropes in the isekai/harem genres, and straight out contradicts some of them. Overall, I think several aspects of Smartphone offer a fresh perspective on the isekai/harem genre, but I don't think I'd call it a parody. I think it's a comedy, and that it doesn't take itself too seriously. I also think it's a good show. :) |

We can also say that the creator, or a bunch of folks in some committee meeting, looked at Kono Subarashii and Re: Zero; then went, "We're sick of how the shounen leads in these shows start off as either no-skilled NEET perverts or no-skilled deer-to-headlights nobodies (respectively)." I doubt this by-the-numbers collection of RPG tropes hadn't been thought through, though. Sometimes; the best joke is the one that's been worked on but required a specific situation. |

| It's on of those OP isekai anime and it's not parody. Would you put tag to every anime with OP mc? No. And beings polyamarous, or more like polygamy, even in our only became uncommon after the fall of the monarchy system, same with incest between royalties. It used to be very common, although it's still being practised in the middle east and Islamic countries. Being OP and having comedy does not mean that this anime is a parody, I agree that the anime is somehow badly written. I've read the LN up to volume 9 and honestly I've been loving it. It's a generic isekai with an actual interesting plot which develops rather well after the discovery of Babylon. It's a shame that the anime will probably end before that. The anime only covers the introduction of the actual plot and story. |
