The sort amount of time we saw of Mamado which was tied to 008's arc I have to say was a pretty good villain, got shivers at his final moment and expected him to go down like that and glad he did, they could've easily written his humanity coming to surface again etc. Good episode/arc.

Norio came through with the clutch next episode speech. Seriously, who has as much fun playing a sketchy character as this man. Skar is perfection.

On one hand, I want to take away from this episode for not giving 008 the full spotlight. But for right now, 009 isn't taking the Mecha anime protag route of no killing anymore. I doubt it will stick but it is relevant character growth. Too bad his nakama had to get hurt some more to learn his lesson.

008's arc had everything the other standalone episodes didn't have. Stakes. Injuries. Consequences for actions. Death. It was almost there. If it could have made more time for 008's actual backstory, it would have been nicer. And of course, more opportunities for 008 to take charge and kick ass. But these two episodes are the best this show has been since the plus and minus twins.

Smoke still looks fantastic. I will add the death tank laser scene to the vivid moments this show animates so well when it feels like it.

Hopefully this show continues moving upwards in quality. At least until the next inevitable dip.
