I thought that it might be good if we listed off some of the Midwest anime clubs we've belonged to or know about.

Japanese Animation Club (J.A.C.) http://jac.anime.net/ Champaign/Urbana IL
The main page is a bit broken but their forum link still works. I was a part of this club when I was in undergraduate school. In it's prime back in the early 2000's when I was there, they had at least 100 people attending with 2 screens to show the anime goodness. Normal screenings takes about the whole afternoon. Nowadays, it's probably smaller but the community there has grown closer. They still hold auctions, onigiri fests, and blowouts where you watch about a good 7-8 hours of anime once a semester. (If you are on facebook you'll get plenty of even messages from them and their activities.) It was a unique experience.

University of Chicago Japanese Animation Society (UCJAS) http://ucjas.pbwiki.com/ Chicago, IL
This is the anime club at UofC. Like the school, it's a quirky little club. They meet once a week and screen anime for about 3 hours. These guys have a history of winning skits at ACen. They also host the FREE UchiCon every year with special guests, game rooms, and of course anime screening rooms. Occasionally, they will hold anime marathons and have gatherings, like to the local Chinatown. Once I get my school stuff done I'll likely visit them more.

If we got 80% or higher let me know! :)

Well Idk whether this would be put under anime clubs, but I had created an anime forum for those people who live in the Midwest. So far we have a few people who have joined, all are welcome. Come join at http://www.midwestanime.net . See You There :)

When I went to Northern IL. University back in 2005/6. I tried to joining the Anime Club there. It was kinda of a downer. All they did was sit in a room in the lower level of the bulding that the shooting was in last Febuary watching Anime every Tuesday and Thursday. The rules were you could not talk during the showings. You couldn't eat or drink anything in the room. And during the minor breaks, no one really noticed the new members. Plus, they were always going on about how they couldn't show certain big name anime becuase they didn't have the rights to show them, yet all they really needed to do was contact said American right holders like Pioneer,ADV, Funimation, and Rightstuf who state that they send things to clubs in exchange for some free word of mouth.
I find it annoying that every time I find a listing locally for an Anime Club its either a University Club where you need to go there to join or Library Club for middle school and High School students.
