Jak said:Hi, can you explain to me what's going on in this? Sadly it hasn't been translated very far yet. I've read that while she loves Hayata, she loses her memories or something of him and goes back to the point where she still liked Takato. I hope she ends up with Hayata because Takato is so unlikeable.
Where do I start? The scanlation is so many years behind. I will just state the important events if my memory serves it right. I will start with when Nanoka starts going out with Hayata.
- Nanoka starts comparing her awful relationship she had with Takato with Hayata's which make Hayata uneasy
- Hayata looks up Nanoka's middle school yearbook and somehow identifies Takato as her ex through a picture
- It is revealed that the girl Hayata dated was the current manager (from my first post) in the volleyball team. The girl Hayata accused of cheating before breaking up
- It is revealed how Takato fell in love with Nanoka even before they started going out. From that day, he thought she was his destiny (he was so passionate about her that he could not be himself when he was with her and always thinking what would be the right word/right action before the moment passed) and he tells Kensuke (his best friend and Hayata's senior in VB club) that he will always find her no matter where she is
- Hayata was supposed to be in a festival with Nanoka but didn't get to show up in time because his douche friend (from my first post) had him practice VB with them
- Coincidentally Takato was also working in a resort in that festival area and he tells Kensuke that he saw Nanoka in the festival. Kensuke thought it was impossible because the location he mentioned was so far it's impossible to identify anyone over that distance but it was shown that Nanoka was indeed there.
- In that festival, Nanoka got separated from her friends and she had her phone snatched from her. as she chased down the phone-snatcher she ended up facing a couple of dangerous men in a remote area in the dark.
- There was an indication that those thugs intended to rape her but before they could attack her, Takato showed up. Fast forward, the thugs leaves behind a ravaged Takato behind as he fought until they gave up. Takato's face was unrecognizable and Nanoka cried seeing the battered Takato.
- Hayata shows up after getting intel from the phone snatcher and as he approaches Nanoka and Takato, Takato embraces Nanoka with all his strength and tells Hayata that he will always be the one coming to Nanoka's rescue (also implying that it was he who saved her in the Karaoke bar earlier)
- Nanoka calls for help which involved police and hospital as Takato was taken to emergency. Nanoka hid the fact that she was attacked from the police. However, she didn't know Hayata was present there who never called for help.
- While Takato thought he managed to save Nanoka, it is revealed that he held her so tightly that left his grip mark on her upper arm. He realized he hurt Nanoka again even though he didn't want to and broke down.
- Hayata meanwhile, repented for showing cowardice for not calling for help and his inability to show up when Nanoka needed someone the most got to him
- Hayata starts avoiding Nanoka's calls and starts making mistakes during VB sessions. Meanwhile, the manager wouldn't let Nanoka bring her homemade refreshments to Hayata.
- And the douche friend (who had a crush on the manager) started making it harder for Hayata by questioning his dedication towards VB
- While Hayata was completely shattered, Nanoka meets him on the riverbank and while Hayata rejects her, she forces a kiss on him almost against his will. At this point, she did the same thing to Hayata that Takato did to her (I always said Nanoka is the female version of Takato and it was proven here).
- Nanoka also came to realize she did the same thing that Takato did to her but wanted to think her was true love while Takato's was not. But the contradiction was too much as she broke down.
- Takato wanted to be honest for once and tell Nanoka how he really felt and then move on but after seeing Nanoka (a shell of a human, without any soul) he was left speechless as he realized he was the reason why Nanoka became like that
- But he still manages to tell Nanoka everything he wanted
- Takato then confronted Hayata which resulted in Hayata getting the better of him. It brings Hayata back to earth as he decides to accept Nanoka's feelings.
- He wants her to come see the finals and decides to tell her how he feels after he has won
- But even though Nanoka came to the arena, she never went to see him and Hayata loses the game after sustaining shoulder injury (accumulated through overwork)
- While Takato thought he has won and he confesses to Nanoka again and he was being forceful, Hayata shows up like a prince and snatches Nanoka from Takato as they make a run for it
- Hayata confesses to Nanoka again and they started going out and they lived happily ever after [THE END] or that's how it should have remained but it wasn't to be
- While Nanoka and Hayata were in complete bliss, smiling, shedding tears of happiness and kissing each other, Takato seemed to have lost any will to live after losing Nanoka. He finds the thugs who attempted to rape Nanoka during the festival and beats them senseless in an alley. At this point it looked like he has truly become a monster
- As Nanoka was enjoying the happiest time of her life, there was suddenly a new transfer student appearing in her class. Nanoka is left in disbelief to see the new student is none other than Takato
- Coincidentally or not, he gets the seat next to Nanoka as well. This is the first time it has been revealed that Takato is actually really handsome as female students from different grades and classes started gathering around Nanoka's class to take a glance. Even Yuuko (Nanoka's friend), who was the first to approach him had her heart skip a beat as her eyes met his.
- Takato tells Nanoka that everything is a coincidence. He never knew the school, class or seat next to Nanoka would be like that. And he tells her that she can forget about him and move on. But then Nanoka tells her that Takato should forget about her as well and move on. Takato confronts Nanoka and tells her that his feelings are his and she has no right to tell him to forget them.
- This is where the new guy, Ouji, who happens to have the same voice as Hayata, appears and makes the manga worse. He is more deranged than Takato ever was and after getting rejected by Nanoka he plans to take revenge on her
- Meanwhile, Chisato, Nanoka's other friend got jealous of Nanoka thinking she was lying when she said she dated the new heartthrob in school and tells it to other girls which catches the school like wildfire.
- Takato tries his best to protect Nanoka from Ouji's revenges but fails as rumours start to spread about her two-timing with Takato and a boy from different school (Hayata).
- Nanoka's friends Yuuko and Chisato also became part of bullying so Nanoka tells them to not be with her which tore them apart
- To make things worse for Nanoka, Hayata reveals that he will move to the USA with his parents, failing to keep his promise that he would join her high-school starting next year.
- Nanoka wouldn't buy that and refused to accept Hayata leaving her for the USA. Takato meets Hayata to tell him Nanoka's situation in school (which Nanoka never told Hayata because of his upcoming entrance exams) but Hayata reveals to Takato that he is leaving for the states so if Takato really cared for Nanoka, he should protect her while he cannot be with her.
- Hayata then meets Nanoka in an attempt to convince her that he will be back from the USA in few years time and will always love her and asks her to wait for him. They share a lot of kisses and intimate moments but they never went all the way. Nanoka decides to believe in Hayata and accepts the fact that he needed to move to the USA
- Takato starts being nicer to everyone including Nanoka as he has decided to protect Nanoka from all the rumours. Nanoka starts behaving normally with Takato as if there was nothing between them and she also makes up with Chisato and Yuuko (probably thanks to Takato)
- As Nanoka started to behave like there was never anything between her and Takato, just before the festival preparations, she suggests to make a classroom garden. Takato was the first to help her with the suggestion as more students start to accept it. But then Takato recalled the garden he wanted to show Nanoka but he never could because of the rain. And then he realized Nanoka suggested the garden because of Hayata. He starts to slowly breakdown. Perhaps he underestimated his feelings for Nanoka and Ouji sees an opportunity in Takato's fragile heart and makes it corrupted by suggesting him to do something unthinkable - a double suicide
- Ouji hired the same thugs that wanted to rape Nanoka and gets Hayata knocked out and putting him in restraints, makes Yuuko's pathetic boyfriend set fire in one of the school rooms and while the commotion happened hoped that Takato would commit double suicide with Nanoka. At the same time he revealed to Hayata about his twisted personality and why he wanted to see how far people can go for love to give it a meaning.
- Hayata manages to escape and rushes towards Nanoka. At the same time, Takato breaks down in the last moment seeing Nanoka and just couldn't bring himself to hurt her. Ouji predicted Takato might fail so he planned ahead and captures Nanoka and plans to commit suicide with Nanoka.
- The thugs Ouji hired appears and take revenge on Takato by beating him up again in front of Nanoka. Hayata rushes to save Nanoka but Ouji jumps with Nanoka. Hayata manages to catch Ouji's hand. Half beaten Takato catches Ouji's hand as well. But they fail as Nanoka along with Ouji takes a fall from few storey school building.
- Nanoka conveniently loses 6 months worth of her memory (from the moment she got to know Hayata) so that Hayata is never troubled by her ever again. Ouji breaks his spine and goes to coma.
- Takato's father, who is very influential figure, manages to hide the actual facts and the news that came out were different and deemed as done by external people
- Yuuko reveals to Hayata that Nanoka lost her memories. Hayata disappears from the scene after that for a while. Nanoka goes back to the same Nanoka where she still had an uninterested attitude towards Takato (that is just before she met Hayata). But somehow she confronted him when he approached her. It was strange because Nanoka never showed ANY emotion whatsoever when she dated Takato. This was a big indication that the old Nanoka never gave Takato a chance.
- Takato, as horrible a person he is, takes Nanoka's memory loss as an advantage and tells her that he wants to get back together with her. Nanoka recalls Takato's sincere confession that she completely erased from her memories and recalls why she accepted his confession back then in middle school. This was also the first time they had a proper talk.
- Chisato feels responsible for what happened to Nanoka and Hayata and couldn't bear to accept Takato taking advantage of Nanoka's memory loss and tries to get them together by reenacting the situation that made Nanoka notice Hayata but it fails as she couldn't recall him and walked pass him. It was the last thing to happen to Hayata who hoped she would recall him.
- Nanoka decides to go on a date with Takato and for the first time they really spoke their minds. Nanoka tells Takato that he needs to tell her what he is thinking otherwise she wouldn't know. Takato tells her that she needs to show emotions otherwise he wouldn't know. It was strange because their relationship never lasted because they were so distant when they first dated. Nanoka started to amend her past mistakes and become more demanding in her relationship with Takato. She now shows him different types of faces. Faces when she is happy, relieved, glad, embarrassed, annoyed, bothered, angered and many more. She is not the Nanoka that just walked silently behind him, never made eye contact while talking and always keeping her head down. She now walks next to him and makes faces she never did.
- Chisato breaks down seeing Nanoka with Takato and tells her about Hayata for the first time. But Nanoka cannot seem to recall anything about Hayata. Takato decides to tell Nanoka everything about Hayata and he does so. He tells him nothing but all the good things about Hayata, his good personality, that he is taller than Takato, that he is nice to everyone and that Nanoka loved him. He even tells her that perhaps she will regain her memories and she will come to hate Takato for what he did to her and how he took advantage of her lost memories but one thing for certain, he will never be able to come to love anyone else again. No one can replace Nanoka. And then Nanoka indicated that she likes Takato now which made Takato break down in tears as he apologized for not being able to give up on her. Nanoka on the other hand started to think that Hayata's appearance or anything might not change anything unless she hears his voice. But right now, she doesn't want to find out (implying that she is thinking about her relationship with Takato)
- Yuuko tells Chisato that she knows how much Chisato cared for Nanoka but for Nanoka's sake they need to step aside and let her decide on her own. On valentine's day, Nanoka watches quietly as Takato receives loads of chocolates from girls from different classes. While returning from school Nanoka asks if they were all friendship chocolates and Takato says they were and he refused to take the ones that weren't. Then Nanoka accidentally drops the chocolates she intended to give Takato and tells him that the current Takato she likes the most all the while being embarrassed. Takato blushes too and tells her that he is the happiest making Nanoka turn even redder. Then he approaches to kiss her and Nanoka closes her eyes to receive it but he stops. Then Takato tells her that he regrets kissing her in the past against her will, making her cry, that she probably doesn't recall because of her lost memories so he will only ever kiss her when she tells him to and wait until that day comes. This is where TIME-SKIP happens. First forward, two years from that day, on valentines day, Takato is shown refusing to accept chocolates. That day is yet to arrive even after two years (that they never kissed.)
- Nanoka and the others have already graduated from high school. Nanoka got accepted in a University because Takato tutored her for her entrance exams. In the past two years, even though Nanoka dated Takato, she tells Chisato and Yuuko that he hardly ever touched her let alone kissed. Chisato reminded Nanoka that Takato must be feeling guilty of using her memory loss to date her. Which upsets Nanoka a bit but then Chisato retracts her words saying her opinion about Takato changed since she has observed him for two years and he does seem to treasure Nanoka like nothing else. Takato meanwhile tells Kensuke the reason why he could never touch Nanoka. Because every time he wanted, it seemed like the Nanoka who lost her memories staring at him. Takato asks Nanoka to go with him to the flower garden where they couldn't get to see the flowers back in middle school
- And as they rode a train towards the garden Nanoka's memory of going to the garden with Hayata started to lapse with her visit with Takato's during middle school. Once they reached the garden, clouds started to form and Takato wanted to leave. But then Nanoka tells him it doesn't matter and rushes towards the valley and then tells Takato that she knows the promise she made to come here wasn't with Takato
- Nanoka loses consciousness as her memories overlap with school festival and Takato carries her back to the shade. Then Nanoka regains her memory and walks back to the valley in the downpour and asks Takato what really happened that day. Takato breaks down and tells Nanoka that he was about to commit double suicide with Nanoka without her consent because losing her was too unbearable for him. Nanoka yells at him saying she wants to recall his love for Hayata. That she wants to know what she would do once she recalls. If she's gonna hate Takato. If she's never gonna forgive him. But dating him for the last two years has made her understand him like none other. And she knows that he would never commit such a sin. And she would even convince her past self that Takato would never do that. As she cried she tells him what hurts her the most is she knows she cannot bring herself to hate him. Because she is in so love with him. As Takato broke down on his knees and cried his eyes out, Nanoka sits and gently holds him while crying and tells him that she loves him so much she doesn't know what to do.
- Meanwhile, Ouji wakes up from his two years coma.
- Takato caught a cold after being drenched in the rain and Nanoka comes to visit her. Takato tells Nanoka that she has no idea how much she means to him and how much he loves her. Takato gently takes up her hand and kisses her in the hand and then Nanoka tells that she thought he would kiss her on the lips (since she told him she loves him) and them both becoming embarrassed as she leaves for the day.
- Ouji calls Takato and as Takato meets him he tells him that he is dying as he has brain tumor. And then he reveals that Hayata's voice is the key to make Nanoka recall her memories so Takato should make sure she never hears Hayata's voice.
- Hayata returns from the USA (first appearance in the manga in months) for a short while and he meets Nanoka but she couldn't recognize him. His voice is damaged (not because of puberty, duh) because of a fire accident in the States when he tried to save the only daughter of his parents' acquaintances. He is visiting Japan with them. Since his voice changed, Nanoka didn't recall any memories. He tells Nanoka that he is Hayata and also tells her that she probably never liked him that much anyways so she can forget about him and move on after hearing that she is going out with Takato and wished he had forgotten about her.
- Nanoka tells Takato that she met Hayata and she is happy that she doesn't have to worry about getting her memories back. She knows the one she likes now is Takato and will love him by pouring all of her heart without holding back. Dunno how it works but Hayata tells Kensuke that he skipped grades and from one talk to another, Takato is called in and Hayata tells Takato that in the end it is Hayata who brought smile on Nanoka's face by enduring the pain of losing her and not Takato. Takato realized the smile Nanoka shows him is not what he gave her.
- Nanoka, happily preparing a feast for Takato for his passing the entrance exam to a renowned university, she suddenly recalls Hayata's words that she probably never liked her that much making her drop a whole bowl of whipped batter. The drama intensifies as she breaks down in front of Takato after he asked for her permission to kiss her. She tells him that while she is so relieved that she doesn't have to worry about loving Takato, yet something is burning her insides and it's painful. She then begs him to kiss her and make her his so that she never thinks of anyone else but only about Takato. The rest is [here].
Going by the popularity poll, I think Takato is gonna be the end game. He is so popular in Japan the word landslide would likely be an understatement. The latest chapter showed glimpses that he might just do something right for once. |
