The first story was a rakugo story, and a funny one.

The second story was the tale of a monk who carved 120000 Buddha statues during his lifetime. Given that he started to carve when he was a teen, and that he lived to 64 years old, that means that he carved 2400 wooden statues per year, which is between 6 and 7 per day. Talk about a busy beaver...
