I don't like slice of life shows I find them boring, I don't say that to to criticize the genre, everyone is different and its nice to have so much diversity in anime. It's just not my cup of tea, i'm more of a dumb shonen kind of guy.

That's why I was so surprised when I watched Kuzu no Honkai and ended up really liking it.
From what I understand slice of life is a genre where there is no central plot, and it focuses on character exploration through depictions of everyday experiences.

I get that Kuzu no Honkai is really different from other slice of life shows but from what I can see, it seems to fit the description.

So my Question is why is Kuzu no Honkai not considered Slice of life?

Kuzu no Honkai has for me opened up for a whole new world of anime that I didn't know i liked, and i'm considering maybe exploring the slice of life genre, to maybe see if its much for interesting than I initially thought it was.

This is not slice of life. If my life was anything like this show, I would top myself. This show focuses on character development in regards to romance- definitely not a fluffy show- too much drama to be considered as SOL

This anime is most defiantly a SOL in every since of what "life" actually is for today's sexually active youth, however it follows a much more realistic tone that other SOLs do not. I've seen a lot of people saying that this is not something that they ever experienced in high school. The problem with that sentiment is most of the people that use sites like this and watch anime aren't typically the A-type personality people that have an aggressive (I use that term loosely) enough to drive (or the confidence and experience) to actually pursue this kind of lifestyle. I used to be a combat arms soldier in the Army. Every weekend we where able we (mostly kids that are freshly out of high school) would be out on the clubs going for numbers and what not. I never went to high school, but a lot of my fellow soldiers would talk about their experiences in high school as pretty similar. Though I've never talked to one that claimed to have slept with a teacher, but we can tell just by looking up news stories that it does happen and those are just the few cases that got caught. It goes well within reason to assume that there are still many instances that have not been, nor ever will get caught.

The things that happen in this anime are things that happen to many people all the time. However, because of the nature of what it is, its not something that people usually talk about openly. That's why I love this series. It deals with the characters as the primal beings they are, and not the over exaggerated crap in most other anime.
Speed is Life - 1st ID... patch on my shoulder.
