From which episode is this scene? Can't remember...
Season finale of Chuunibyou Ren. Personally I think Rikka and Yuuta make an absolutely adorable couple with OR without kissing.
I find the obsession with kissing amongst majority of the (vocal) fans is pretty silly. There's one thing when you need to see a couple kissing as a confirmation that they are in love, or something to show that they have made progress in their romance or relationship. But not always. Not with a couple like Rikka and Yuuta where you can see how much they love one another. I think the cutest part of it all is how they are taking it slowly.

Yup, I agree completely with you. Rikka and Yuuta are no ordinary couple. He even states that they don't need to be pressured by "normal people's habits", that their contract is even stronger than of these people. Besides, the chuunibyou Rikka suffers is quite a barrier for them to show their love's true potential and Yuuta understands that, so he doesn't try to speed things up like any other guy would do. I feel like people who just want them to kiss fastly fail to undestand these characters. While I do wish they'll kiss in the future, I can wait as long as it takes, because I find their relationship really beautiful.

That's right. While I didn't really enjoy the introduction of Sophia in the story (I am not saying it was completely unwanted, and Sophia is not a KyoAni made up character either as she does appear in the LN and is one of the protagonists in the original material unlike some fans claiming in the past that she was an anime original character) I think her introduction also showed the level of vulnerability Rikka would feel since she cannot really express her love toward Yuuta like any normal girl. Despite of her antics, she is still a girl and deep inside she feels that she is unable to stop Yuuta if he fell out of love with her. Her contract with Yuuta means the world to her. That much how she is in love with him. She tries to cover up her shyness with her chuunibyou syndromes which is practically the other way around for others. To be more accurate, it is Rikka who is not the ordinary one between them. But it makes Yuuta an extraordinary boy as how he is so accommodating and considerate toward their relationship. Such a sweet couple like them is pretty hard to find in anime.
Truth be told, KyoAni tend to work with some of the most unique couples in anime. We can't just brush them aside as ordinary ones and hope to see them act like just like any other couples in anime.
Mirai and Akihito. Despite of falling in love with one another who were once mortal enemies, Mirai couldn't leave with a parting kiss. When would height difference come against you in your attempt to kiss the boy you loved, knowing the feelings are mutual? While fans complain about that, they failed to notice that suppressing her emotion was all in Mirai's mind at that moment. More than being able to kiss, she just couldn't bring herself to do such a cruel thing to Akihito at that time believing there was no tomorrow for them.
Tamako and Mochizou. Tamako and Mochizou never kiss in Tamako Love Story. However, it was highly conveyed that the two of them got together after Tamako confessing to Mochizou. A charged run towards Mochizou, jumping to his arms and kissing him like a Hollywood romance? Not happening. And fans complain when they fail to realize that Tamako has just realized Mochizou wasn't just a childhood friend to her. But more than that, Tamako finally realized that she is a girl herself before a mother figure to Anko. She also realized that accepting Mochizou's feelings is akin to growing up. Apparently fans failed to notice one of the ending shots where we can see Tamako's shadow is snuggling up to Mochizou's shadow. They really didn't need to show kisses to show Tamako and Mochizou in love.
Sento and Kanie. Although Sento does kiss Kanie (in his sleep) in Amagi later on in the story, which was never adapted, in the anime, they never really looked like a couple. KyoAni didn't need to show it anything more than a bit of tension from Kanie's side because of course how beautiful Sento is. Kanie is shown as a narcissist character and too proud to even recognize that he might fall in love first. Sento, on the other hand, had her world revolve around Latifa so she couldn't really understand why she started to see Kanie as a dependable figure. The point where the anime ended, there was no indication of romance other than small tension here and there.
Chitanda and Oreki. Oreki's interest towards Chitanda has always been a curiosity toward a classmate who seems to find confidence in his abilities of reasoning and perceive things from a different angle, making him capable of deducing things naturally. There was no indication that he actually liked Chitanda as a romance interest. However, it was implied that his interest may result in romantic development which never happened in the Koten-bu series either. Oreki and Chitanda are both very unique characters. One of them interested in nothing, the other being interested in absolutely everything. However, Oreki's growing interest in Chitanda gave a good platform for his character development.
Kumiko and Shuichi. In the novel, Kumiko has been in love with Shuichi from the beginning of the story. In the anime, it was changed to her fighting against her personality. While in the novel, she does confess to Shuichi that she loved him, there was never a kiss scene in it. So, even if Kumiko does end up with Shuichi in the upcoming movies, there will not be any kiss scenes. Kumiko is a very unique character herself. She wears a mask of indifference in the beginning which is slowly peeled off as she experiences all sorts of emotions in her high school life. Her acknowledging the fact that she needed to be honest with her feelings toward Shuichi is nothing but a completion of her coming of age. Do we need to have kiss scenes here? No we don't. Two childhood friends admitting that they loved each other and started dating. Kisses can happen behind the scenes tbh.
Yet there's just no end to complains. I wonder what fans expect from KyoAni. Is it too much to understand that KyoAni has its way of depicting romance and it is why the studio tend to pick certain source material which involves romance? Beats me. For me, as a studio which has been one of the most successful ones in the industry actually knows what it is doing more often than not.

So far I haven't watched much of KyoAni, Chuunibyou was the first one I watched and I liked it a lot. After watching it, I've read more about other works' from the studio, about their themes and animation style and I got really interested. I'm a huge fan of the slice of life genre and their approach to it seems to be great (except for Nichijou - it's a good show, of course, but its absurdity and exaggerated style is not the style of slice of life I appreciate the most). I think their two shows that better caught my attention were Hyouka and Euphonium. I'll probably watch one of these two next.

I feel that Hyouka and Euphonium are not for everyone. However, both have some of the most detailed and gorgeous arts and animations the anime industry as a whole have ever produced in TV series. Most of the KyoAni anime are character driven more than being plot driven. Hyouka is Oreki driven and Euphonium is Kumiko driven. If someone is looking for plot, then there isn't any. Just like in the case of Chuunibyou.
I still think Clannad After Story, Nichijou and Euphonium are the best TV anime KyoAni have ever produced. But they have also produced some of the best anime movies as well. Some of which one can only be appreciated if someone had followed the TV series attentively. For instances, K-On! the Movie (Yui and Azusa driven), Tamako Love Story (Tamako driven) or Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu (Kyon driven) can only be really appreciated if someone actually closely paid attention to the characters and not the plot. Not to mention Koe no Katachi (Shouya driven) where KyoAni managed to incorporate 60+ chapters of the manga to make a successful 2 hour movie.
It's very easy to fall out of love with the studio if one is unable to appreciate how the studio actually works. For me, I simply love their anime. And I cannot wait for Violet Evergarden to air next year! I mean just check out the PV!

To be honest, character-driven works are the ones I like the most, such as the World Masterpiece Theater series which are purely like that, with no plot whatsoever other than the character's lifes. Great to hear KyoAni follows this approach for most of their works. Though the ones I mentioned are the ones I'm most interested, there's others that also caught my attention, such as some you mentioned in your reply, so I'll surely watch them as well. I feel like the studio has a lot of potential of becoming one of my favorites.
And yes, I'm looking forward to Violet Evergarden too, it's stunningly beautiful!

I personally wouldn't have minded as much if they didn't intentionally tease us about it at the end of the second season. That was harsh! Now I selfishly claim that they owe us.
Glad to see at least something of Kumin in the upcoming movie, even though she must have graduated by then. Seriously, she was the real MC of Chuunibyou: "A high schooler's heroic struggle to keep the Napping Club going while hampered by a bunch of kids with issues."

I totally agree. With all the spanking and beating that takes place throughout the series, simply kissing would be sort of an anticlimax.
Oh boy! I cannot wait to see this! And did anyone notice Tamaya @0:29! That reference was incredible!
Why you do this Kyoani? I can only get so hyped. Kyoani shared universe confirmed! Maybe they can travel to all the locations of their various anime. That would be really something.

I know, right?! I would have loved to see Tamako and Mochizou again! But for now I am just happy to see Tamaya! The upper floor of Tamaya has an irreplaceable part in my heart!
I have seen in a documentary on KyoAni studio in the past that most of their anime are based on Kyoto prefecture. It's their signature and they are proud to represent Kyoto, and it is their way to promote the city and the prefecture. So, you'll see them using the same places in many of their anime because they are actual locations.
Hyouka, Hibike! Euphonium, Tamako Market, K-On!, Chuunibyou, Kyoukai no Kanata, CLANNAD, Suzumiya Harruhi for examples at least had a thing or two in common, location wise, be it the riverbank, a prominent bridge, a prominent station, a steep walk, a marketplace, a walk down the shadows of cherry blossoms, a temple or a shrine etc.
