- Kuzuma reaches a new low ~
- Komekko visits! just to give Kazuma a reason to leave the house...
- Megumin x Kazuma ship sails a bit further?

Pretty laid back volume with close to no development at all, hopefully we'll see more action in volume 12.

I just finished reading it. Since Volume 9 and 10 were pretty disappointing to me and Explosions 4 was though not disappointing not quite brilliant, I'm pleased to say that the author seemed to have restored much of his "touch" with Volume 11.

Frankly, I don't think "Kuzuma" reached a new low. It's just that recent books pushed his shady side a bit to the corner in the heat of events. Rather, the person who really sinks to a new low is Iris. I said it is really too late to paint some weaknesses onto Iris, and the author decided to paint some anyway - as of Volume 11, Iris' obsession with Kazuma has exceeded healthy puppy love and into something decidedly unhealthy. At least Kazuma can claim he placed his teammates second to take care of a lonely Iris, but Iris was just plain selfish and honey-trapped Kazuma into staying with her. It is just as well he was "cured" with a memory-wiping potion - while Aqua dispelled it eventually it gave him a chance to rethink his position.

Oh well, I guess this is the author's way of making sure he won't have to write more Iris, and the rest of the book was great. No Yunyun though they talk about her, which I found mildly disappointing (I always like to see more Yunyun), but the content of this book is not a good fit for her so if they want to send her off to help fight the Demon Army I'm fine. Besides, given what's happening with Iris, I'm not sure I quite trust the author to write Yunyun.

Anyway, we kind of really go back to the old days, and both Kazuma and the author had to use their brains to traverse through the engagement sequences (a huge improvement over a big blank from Book 9 to Explosions 4 where the author tries to avoid writing combat sequences at all costs), which is very pleasant and fun to read. Komekko is much toted upon. I liked how the author managed to come up with events that both link to the past and yet are new.

This one is definitely in the top half of the books so far, maybe top third if you count only the main series (I really loved most of the spinoffs so they took up a lot of the total slots).

I liked Volume 6 though I really believed the stories where Iris in the web novel era was a 3-chapter character - her design and fit to the Konosuba-verse felt like that.

I've touched a bit to what I think is the unifying reason why Vol 9, 10 and Explosions 4 are less than great, which is the author avoiding writing fights and writing his story around his desire/need to avoid writing fights. Now, fight scenes aren't this author's forte and Konosuba will never be known for its superb fighting scenes or uber intricate descriptions of the magic system. And that's perfectly fine. Nevertheless, the author has chosen to write a RPG-world which means there will inevitably be times when a fight scene is in the natural flow of events or is needed to push the plot.

And most of the books, he proceeds to do that. He usually makes it light and comedic and focuses a lot on the character interactions, which is fine - authors should play to their strengths and the theme of their material. But there is still a fight ongoing, and the background tension of that among other things actually makes the jokes funnier.

In the abovementioned volumes however, he doesn't do that and tries to pass off with non-fights.

Volume 9 already suffered as Aqua proves to be able to repair walls faster than Wolbach can take them down, which resolved the strategic conflict prematurely. Any tension left is personal as they try to lure Wolbach while attriting the demon army, except the author's desire to avoid fight scenes meant what should be dangerous missions are effortlessly successful which let out all the remaining tension, which actually makes everything rather unfunny.

Volume 10 and Explosions 4 also suffered immensely. If the author actually is willing to write proper fight scenes, he could actually have established a much better sequence for Iris where she grows and climaxes into a good fight of killing the golden dragon. Iris might actually look like she's strong not only because of her royal talent, but because she really practised hard and learnt many sword fighting skills. And it'll make her friendship with Megumin and Yunyun so much deeper. Instead, the mix of Iris having to win and the author not wanting to write fights means every fight gets resolved by a single swipe, which makes Iris look ridiculously OP (and Sue) and actually defeats the story's concept of her working hard for her people. That this is a comedy should not IMO excuse such negligent writing.

In Volume 11, the author again starts writing fights when they should be written, and the improvement is obvious.

I was a bit mad when Kazuma decided to stay but the guards trying to capture him was hilarious.

Kazuma called the cops LOL

Megumin's sister is adorable and surprisingly savage.

This volume made me realise again just how much has happened in this series. They really have accomplished a lot...

One of the most chill volume so far even though nothing progressed with their adventures like defeating another demon lord, I'll agree to that.

And goodbye to Iris for how long exactly? Hoping this ain't her last appearance.

Vol 11 felt really like the early volumes where it's a collection of short stories rather than a story centered around a place or event, great to show how our gang has progressed since then.

While I find the Kazuma trying to say indefinitely in the castle segment is cute, the later chapter is very meh since Aqua is GOD ANNOYING instead of being mildly funny this time around

Leisure Queen chapter is hilarious, what a throwback to the Crimson Clan Village arc. Last chapter while being cheesy it's a good sendoff to this "Komekko visit" story
