I checked, and the manga got around 80 chapters, and currently we are around chapter 18-20~, and counting the canon eps from season 1, thats a solid 1ep/chapter, so why not make this a long running series? Any reason why don't they just make a 100-200ep and keep it going until the manga is going? Not like it will catch up anytime soon...

@SkullProX

Nowadays that's just how they adapt manga, nothing we can do about it. If this series sells, maybe we will get another arc animated, and so on, and so forth :P There are very few long running series when you think about it.

You want another Naruto infinite filler anime out there?? If the anime does well we'll most probably see another season soon.

No, but as I said there are 90~chaps, and we are on chap 20?? It can have 50-70ep and then stop or sth... doesn't have to be fillers.

How do you determine where to stop. How do you end it? Making the show into arcs where there are important things going on is the best way for them to make seasons for the show. Thats why just animating whats there is a bad idea 70 episodes that's a random number. What would you cut what would you add you say you don't want fillers.

If they go like you suggest, then when the 70 episode anime ended we would have to wait for many many years for a sequel (if we ever got one), because there would be no more source material and Ao no Exorcist is a monthly manga. There's the fact that they don't know if Ao no Exorcist will sell well, it's been many years since the first season and the audience might not like it. Lastly when you do a long running series the quality tends to take damage, so I prefer the way they're doing it now.

When they see that they will catch up to the manga, stop at the end of the arc before that, just like Fairy Tail did, it's not a rocket science..

It seems like nobody has answered this with the source in mind.

Well money talk aside. This arc is the longest one that is not followed by a series of mini stories. While in most long anime, even if mini arcstend to follow big ones, they normally stop in a point where a longer one ends. Now the problem here is the next big arc follows continually up to the current chapter, so they'd have to continually adapt that and end in the middle of an arc.

TL'DR. It's not good to end with mini arcs, nor can they use the current arc without stopping awkwardly mid arc.

Oh, so it's just this arc, then random stories and then the big arc is still ongoing? Ok that makes sense, thanks for the answer :)
