Ah those suplexes. I never get sick of seeing those unleashed by the Yellow Tiger Mask.

Felt like his opponent was a bit stubborn though.
Episode also had a bit of beach but I'm not even surprised that Tiger Mask just trains like usual lol. Interesting to hear more about the first Tiger Mask.

After this episode, I suppose that Tiger Mask Nisei is not canonical...

It's a pretty good episode. The music in this show is on point.

For example, there was a cool connection between old and new Tiger Masks. The jazz saxophone with the sunset really invokes that old school anime feel.

Meanwhile, the old guy getting nostalgic really makes it feel authentic. This show really does feel like old school anime, which I hope it sparks a re-exploration into that style. It really is a gem of a show.

If I understand, Mr. X isn't the same as the old one and the new Mr. X seems to be just an imitator just like Tiger Mask. Miss X seems to be his daughter or something as she seems very nervous but obedient around him.

Seems Tiger Dark has gotten the respect of most GWM wrestlers. He can slowly take Tiger's Den down from within.

But it also seems like Tiger's Den will strike back soon and the story will truly pick up.

Maybe, but they ommited the information that
. We'll have to wait for more episodes to see what comes out.

As for the episode itself, nothing quite big happened, but it was a pretty nice episode and they made a very good brief summary of the old series for those who didn't watched it or read the manga. The fight was cool to watch as always.

Damn, I'm really enjoying this series. One of my favorites of the season so far. It's a pity so few people are talking about it.

We can't really say they give away too much in this episode, just 2 brief fan services, for now, and a kinda lousy tag match + an old man claiming to be a fan of the original Tigermask but never actually seen in the original series, but yes I agree it was way better than the last 2, even though we already knew what the journalist found out by searching the archives, the most interesting part was the Mr X one.

Unfortunately it really seems so, and I wonder why, I understand the direction they wanna take with this sequel, where as a matter of facts, there wouldn't be so much to say nor space for Tiger Mask Nisei, but they could've at least mentioned his existance, just pointng out that Naoto Azuma is the 3rd Tigermask, I know Nisei was not canon in the manga, but being this the direct sequel of the anime and still from Toei Animation I don't really see the point leaving out one of their creation here, considering that Tigermask II had its popolarity in the 80s and later on as well, I really feel like mailing Toei and asking why this choice.

I really hope Miss X gets a really nice catfight in the ring.

In terms of old school anime ala Go Nagai, she's like the Lady Jill to somebody's Cutie Honey.

I'm thinking that journalist lady might be some secret wrestler or something. Or maybe Haruna can fight just like all those lady managers in WWE.

In Tiger Mask Nisei was public knowledge that Naoto Date
, while in this episode it was clear that no one knows what happened to him. So it's safe to say that in Tiger Mask W continuity Tiger Mask Nisei never happened.

Easily the most unrealistic episode so far. I mean, did you see how jacked YOSHI-HASHI was drawn? And he actually got some offense in on his opponents, way too unrealistic.

But other than that, this was actually a good episode again, with more focus on the actual wrestling this time.

I have the feeling I'm watching a Pro Wrestling themed Saint Seyia when watching this anime, but, even so, I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would hahaha

Tiger Mask Nisei getting the shaft is the worst thing they've done here. Still a nice episode, but certainly did not taking Nisei out of canon.

I don't remember it as a particular good anime. But I admit that last time I saw an episode was twenty years ago...

The original Tiger Mask, Date Naoto, is the old guy isn't it? Haruna's dad/uncle or whatever.

Also, are all of these matches No DQ? Last week, we had the Dubai guy attacking the referee and here, we've got weapon shots.

As much as I enjoy this show, it's trailing into the suplex being the end all be all move. Of his three most recent matches, all of them has ended with a suplex into hold. Yes, it's a physically impressive move to pull off, but ending every match the exact same way is getting boring. Hopefully the show gets back to more ridiculous nonsense like the Red Death Mask match.

No, it's Kentaro Takaoka. The original Yellow Devil from the first series.

You don't really watch Pro Wrestling, do you? Every Wrestler has his finisher and generally end his matches with it.

I don't. It's not a thing here.

I don't think that negates what I said. For real life Pro Wrestling it kinda makes sense, the wrestlers know what to expect from another, and they're not guaranteed the same crowd every performance so the guy who goes to one show expecting to see his favourite move in real life would be disappointed if they didn't do it. I also suspect Pro Wrestling matches for any one particular wrestler aren't as regular as an anime can be with episodes every week (well... almost), but I don't have any knowledge about wrestling schedules.

The point I'm trying to get at here is that while this is a show about "pro wrestling" it hardly tries to portray it accurately, but rather showing a world where the wrestling storylines are real. That, together with the fact that there's no risk of disappointing an audience in that way and the actual audience has more than likely already seen the other episodes the previous weeks (or back to back, if marathoning), there's no good reason to not vary up the matches. Showing an extended shot of Tiger Mask doing the suplex hold, with the audience going "Woooh!" is just not gonna be as interesting the third time you see it, no matter how you slice it.

Maybe they're having his NJPW "non-story" matches work that way, being more formulaic, and leaving the more elaborate choreography to his GWM matches. I could buy that, but if the next big bad GWM wrestler goes down with a suplex hold I'd honestly be somewhat disappointed.

In that case you're probably going to be dissapointed. Except for it being real the storylines we see are kinda what you can expect in most wrestling promotions. Maybe a bit difficult to comprehend but if you were a wrestling fan you would understand a lot of things like the finishers that may not be that entertaining to non-fans. So prepare for some more trips to bridging German Suplex-City.

Oh I understand, I just don't agree.

Like I said, while it's an anime "about" pro wrestling, it's not "actually" pro wrestling. What works in an actual wrestling setting doesn't necessarily translate well into another medium.

But, eh, it worked for Sailor Moon.

Tiger Mask I, Naoto Date had several finishing moves in the anime: one being the Tiger (German) Suplex, another Super Tiger Drop and lastly, Fujiyama Tiger Breaker. He finished the majority of his matches with the FTB over the course of the series and countered most counters to it. He also had an illegal finisher called the Tiger Chokehold which he used on Dark Shadow which double-teamed him earlier in the match with Skull Star. The Tiger Chokehold had just one more use in the anime, Tiger the Great applied it on Ken Takaoka, almost killing him in the process.

Tiger Mask II, Tatsuo Aku (non canon apparently) initially relied heavily on the Cobra Stretch that Antonio Inoki so loved, he later came up with his Pyramid Drop or whatever.

This Tiger Mask apparently relies on the Tiger Suplex for now and will do so until he comes up with a finisher of his own. We'll have to wait and see.

Lol, what a mark.
Are Mike and Kevin a reference to the Von Erichs? I mean, they were in Texas after all.
