So that's that. I enjoyed. It never did get boring but the show did feel weaker after Heidi got back from Frankfurt and i think it would have better if the show had ended up with Alm's and Heidis reunion. Thing's did happen after that but there wasn't as much as charm to it and the second half wasn't as interesting.

I have to say that eventhough the show recycles animation a lot it never gives you that "in your face" feeling. Something like Gundamn from the same decade for instance did recycled a animation a lot and on that show all the recycling felt just obnoxious but that never happened with Heidi.

I love that Heidi's grandfather sent Joseph with Peter so that he could watch over the goats, and in turn make it possible for Peter to also be there to witness the moment when Clara would stand and walk for her family. I'm sure that neither her father nor her grandmother expected to experience such joy. It was the first time she walked to her father's arms like a baby who just learned how to walk. It was moving, and it's all thanks to the Alps, Heidi, Peter, and her grandfather!

Then I felt like Clara. Because it was the last episode and she was going back to Frankfurt. I took a while just like her to say goodbye to the hut, to the fir trees, to the alps, to Joseph, to everything. The difference is that Clara will be back in spring to live many more wonderful moments with her new family. But this is the end for me. I'm just glad that it didn't end with their goodbye. There was a small epilogue, showing how they were all doing in life during that fall and winter. I loved to see Peter helping Heidi's grandfather with the apple harvest. I loved to see Rottenmeier encouraging Clara with her walking practice so that she could go back to the Alps. And I loved to see the little daydream which Heidi had while imagining how things will be come spring.

Well, it's over. I guess I have to thank Dete and whoever gave her a job in Frankfurt. If it wasn't for the job offer Heidi wouldn't have come to live with her grandfather and she wouldn't have met Peter. And if it wasn't for Dete taking her against her will to Frankfurt, Clara would most certainly have spent the rest of her life feeling miserable and alone in that wheelchair. Goodbye beautiful and wholesome piece of animation. Thanks for the moments and memories, I can almost hear Peter whistling. It's time to go home.

Ah, the look of utter disbelief and joy that flashed on Herr and grandmother was worth the wait and secrecy. Such a tender and moving moment. They all had tears in their eyes. Even grandfather was teary-eyed with Clara's departure. He thought no one would notice. But I, with my all-powerful eyesight, as much power as you can get when you require medical glasses, took notice of the tiny teardrops in his eyes.

This has been quite the journey. Seeing Heidi learning about the world around her and developing close bonds of friendship and familial with some of the people she loves was wholesome in its straightforward way. The Anime was so nostalgic in its viewings of how simple and undemanding the people of old were. From the music to the scenery, everything about the anime was handled with care and simplicity. I wholeheartedly believe the core of this Anime is all about its characters and how you come to like and understand them, despite them being stereotypical and conventional. That, in a way, is unique in itself.

Hard to believe this 52 episode trek all started with Dete, despite the woman's questionable choices throughout the series. I guess everything does happen for a reason. I wonder just what became of her, and what would she think about these newly-developing events?

They used to sell a collection of 35 VCRs in Argentina with Heidi and 3000 Leagues in search of mother, that's how I first experienced this series (although looking back, since the whole show is 52 episodes, those VCRs must have been highly abridged to fit all, unfortunately I don't have them anymore to confirm).
This time around I watched some beautiful bluray encodes, it really enhances the experience.
Wish I could see more of these characters lives and some of their adventures come spring. I miss them already.
As the episode title says, また会う日まで (which is also a classic folk song Ozaki Kiyohiko ;))

This anime it's truly a masterpiece. It was made in 1974, and it still looks beautiful, even better than most of the anime nowadays. The fact that it's rated so low it's criminal.
