I can't find an answer anywhere so I'm asking here but..what is that weird brown "mascot" that keeps appearing? Like on Misaki's cellphone messages and the thing she bought..

Karasumi (type of fish roe). It's a pricy delicacy from Japan & Taiwan. It's not that rare in Taiwan so their exports are supposedly affordable.

I kind of relate to Misaki. Trying your hardest for months and not even taken seriously by Shindou who later loses is disheartening. But didn't expect her to quit outright. Maybe she needs a guiding friend to bring her back. Even though no romance so far, ED gives that Asuka x Misaki hint. Even though Shindou was arrogant, I like his & Asuka's gungho attitude, feels like what sportsmanship should be.
I don't find Inui's bird cage tactic dominating or "forbidden". There might be room for counter tactics. But besides good skills, seems that company hardware is better tuned. Seems she switched a mode during that crouch to boost vertically, and sped faster than Shindou on his rebound + high speed. I suspect her boot can adjust among the 3 modes?

Now that's impressive, Shindou got utterly demolished out there. The 2-3 score on paper says one thing but on the battle field it wasn't even close, Inui destroyed Shindou so bad. It makes me wonder where Asuka stands in this, she brought out the best in Shindou and here he gets outclassed.

I feel bad for Misaki as she's lost in what to do. The girl quits because someone out there is miles better than her and she doesn't have the same passion for the game anymore. She straight up just not herself, buying Soba ramen instead of Udon, whatever toy she bought she said she already had one too.

Asuka sure is a fast learner out in battle and outside. She's was quite perceptive of Inui's dominance over Shindou, something Misaki couldn't catch.

While the first episode was pretty weak and had great CG QUALITY, this anime proved to be an excellent interpretation of the game, at least for the common route.

Yes it's not an excellent "adaptation" since a lot of minor and major change were incorporated into the anime but needless to say, it's still a pretty good stand-alone anime and representation of the VN at the same time.

After this episode, if anyone isn't interested then this anime is not for them simply.

What makes the past 7 episodes of aokana great is how it's setting up the theme of how prodigies affect player surrounding them in different way and how hard work fare against real talent.
That already a pretty interesting theme(rarely do I see character in anime react in a bad way to prodigies and feeling inferior, helpless, and hateful toward them) which already elevate this story.

But, the anime doesn't stop there; it also gives us an interesting premise, what happens when an emerging sport still in the middle of it's evolution face something that is on the verge of destroying it? How can a sport be competitive if a single tactic is so overwhelmingly superior to the other erasing all the competition? That would be the death of the realm of that competitive sport. This is the reason why I thought this interpretation of the VN is phenomenal until ep 7, it's truly an interesting story with a lot of thought put into it, furthermore the sport is ultra coherent and interesting too!

It's unfortunate that a lot of people watched it for the wrong reasons(romance, hoping for the VN MC to have an important role) and it receive a lot of unwarranted hate from some VN reader too.

I also wanted to say that I don't consider the VN a masterpiece at all. While the common route(which this anime adapted until ep 7) was really great, I thought the routes themselves didn't rise up to the buildup the common route sets up and had a lot of pacing problem(and unecessary romance IMO).

All in all, great first 7 episodes. Truly a hidden overlooked gem for people looking for this kind of rare story! For the next 5 episode, I'll hope the anime outdo the VN and deliver on these themes!

Saki is the most badass and terrifying of the FC players. I love her focus. Monarch of the skies! Love that kuudere appeal too.

I can understand why Misaki feels the way she does, but I think she's just being a spoiled brat about it. Too much attention and praise from Mashiro and she think she's the shit, and now she's realizing that there are people out there whose talent outclasses her practice. But that really is the real world, sometimes it doesn't matter how hard you try and practice and study, there are always going to be people out there who are better than you just because they have the affinity for it.

But it's kinda like what Shindou said, it doesn't really matter though because as long as you love it, you should never stop trying.

I think Misaki never really loved FC the way Asuka does, she just loved being good at FC.

Misaki sucked if it wasn't her route. But in her route (best route) she was awesome.

I'd love Shindou x Misaki. Masaya hasn't done anything to deserve Misaki (or any other girl, really).

Yeah Masaya sucks in the anime. He does some phenomenal coaching in some game routes though.
