A user asked on Reki Kawahara's Twitter page whether Alicization will be the last arc with Reki replying that he is unsure, but he would like to write a continuation if possible.

The web novel series the light novel was based on concluded with the Alicization arc in 2008.

The couldn't the reason why the series web novel stopped at the Alicization arc in 2008 is because the light novel started coming out in 2009. So he had to stop the web novel.
