| Wasn't expecting them to dub it. But I suppose there isn't a whole lot good airing this season so they might as well just dub whatever they've got. I'm happy for this though. Hopefully Animelab can get them for streaming in Australia. The guy who uploads the simuldubbed episodes on nyaa can't into encoding so the file sizes are twice as big Horriblesubs Funimation rips with no difference in quality. |

And as far as I know, Aaron Dismuke (Who you might remember as the kid who played Alphonse in the original FMA and has only just now started to get decent roles since puberty hit him) has never directed a series before. So to be totally honest I have no Earthly idea what to expect. It seems like their intention was to use this show to give some new actors a go. I wish they wouldn't lump this series in the same shit heap as Ultimate Otaku Teacher (Which they used for a similar purpose) but at least it's getting a dub. How good it is... well we'll just have to wait and see. EDIT: Oh yeah, and by the looks of things they still haven't announced a VAs for Hakua or Karen. Wonder if they're going to follow suit and get some new guys or just pick someone from their usual crop. |

| I'm very much aware of who Jad Saxton is. But as I said 'the ones I have heard of are minor roles'. Eri isn't a main character. And speaking of the dub the first two episodes have been released by now. It's not that great so far. Kind of disappointed honestly. It's far from bad and I'd hesitate to even call it mediocre. But when I go into a Funi dub for a series like this I've actually come to expect the writers to go crazy with the script. And it's not as if Funimation have just given up on adaptive scriptwriting because Attack on Titan Junior High's dub is actually a great deal funnier than the Japanese. On the other hand, Shomin Sample's dub is a pretty boring and straightforward adaptation. The cast is... okay for the most part. I really like Sarah Wiedenheft as Aika (Which is good because she's the best girl in the show) but the maid is a pretty bad miscast and everyone else is just 'okay'. And that's basically all I've got to say about the dub. It's okay-ish. I'll wait to hear Hakua and Karen before I make a final judgement call but at this point I haven't really got any strong feelings for or against it. If you only watch dubs you're not losing a whole lot but if don't have a preference I recommend watching the show in Japanese. |

| I haven't seen the new dubbed episode, but the voice actress for Karen has revealed herself as Skyler Davenport. This isn't her first voice acting role, but this is her first proper role in an anime series. We still don't know who Hakua is in spite of the fact that episode 3's dub is out (Funimation haven't made any official announcement yet) but if every other main character is voiced by a newbie I assume it'll be the same with her. In which case I doubt I'm going to be able to guess who she is by voice. EDIT: I just watched the episode. Karen's VA is actually pretty good but Hakua's, while not bad by any stretch, is pretty unremarkable. Speaking of which, still can't figure out who's voicing her. It sounds familiar but considering Aika's VA sounds like a mix between Tia Ballard and Cristina Vee my mind is probably just playing tricks on me. It's probably someone I've never heard of. The dub seems to have gotten progressively better by the episode, but overall I'd still say 'competent' is the best way to describe it. No glaring problems, mostly okay performances and a script that has a good balance between staying faithful to the original and making it sound natural. Aika and Karen are the definite standouts among the cast though. |
