I wonder if Ash and party will go to Joghto as well.

This was a pretty dull episode. There was some good action scenes and emotional moments but as a whole it was boring, without anything in the way of an interesting plot.

How was this a dull episode when May and Drew had their last battle together, funny interactions with them and Harley, and Ash being motivated to battle Brandon again by the art of his old Pokemon and seeing Gary mention he's going to Sinnoh?

This was one of the most plot driven eps of the saga, what are you talking about?

I loved how they basically added Jesse to the group of rival coordinators, she really deserves it, I would have love she and Harley had become official rivals.
I love May and Drew interactions giving each other prespective and setting new challenges to overcome.

This was a totally interesting and exciting episode full of set-ups for the conclusion for the series and it'd say its a shame that it received the lowest viewership rating rating in Japan and became the lowest ever rated episode till BW. It was good to see May & her rivals together apparently one last time which if turns out to be the case then it'd be one great way to write them off the show.

The opening with Ash and May being in their own dilemmas about their future was very well represented in my opinion. The resolution of the internal turmoil was done in an even better manner. For Ash, seeing Professor Oak carry all those gifts from his friends was so wholesome. The poster made by Tracey and his friends is probably one of the most heartwarming things we've seen in the Advanced Generation but why did they have to just give a glance of the poster to the audience and then just never show it again and only make Ash describe the poster without showing it. Misty's fishing lure establishing continuity and Delia's food were great bits added to the episode and then coming to the main bit... Gary's picture which served as the perfect means to ignite that fire inside Ash was such an clever plot point added to this episode according to me. It strengthened the entire rival theme of the episode even further with that added flashback (that was never shown earlier) while also introducing us to the Sinnoh region.

As for the battle, it has been quite a while since we had contest battles felt good as an add-on. There wasn't anything very special about it but the planning and the animation felt pretty good with the surprise from Drew in the form of the new Butterfree which was a nice addition considering it hadn't appeared in such a long time returning in a major role this episode. The clash of the psychic type moves along with the magical leaf burning because of Overheat was a fun watch with the battle going back and forth, and lets not forget because of the episode we got to see SCOTT'S EYES. The battle ending in Drew's victory that easily and Harley not getting an opportunity to have a match were quite disappointing though.

All in all, a lot of thought, effort and care was put into this episode with Drew and Harley now travelling to Johto while May and Jessie stay around Ash. Concluding with Professor Oak's poem its now onto the preparation for Ash Vs Brandon Match #3
