Well,Psycho-Pass 2 is just there to introduce the new characters. You should watch it if you wanna get to know the characters well especially Mika , enforcer Sho and enforcer Sugo. This will ensure your 100% good experience for the movie.

I watched the film today and there is absolutely no need to watch season 2. The only thing you need to know is that there are some new enforcers who don't contribute to the story at all.

Now that the movie is available subbed, this can be answered a bit more accurately, in case anyone is still wondering about this.

There are definitely going to be a few elements you'd be confused about if you hadn't seen the second season, but it's not necessarily required. For the most part they're minor enough things that they wouldn't hinder your enjoyment, but if you find yourself not understanding something in the film, especially regarding Akane, Mika, and the Sybil system, then not having watched the 2nd season might be why you're confused. Just a heads up~

There is nothing about the sibyl system that was revealed in season 2 that is relevant to this. The only thing your going to miss out on is the introduction to mika but even then I don't consider pp2 cannon (it wasn't written by the staff and the pp movie script was probably written before pp2). PP2 is a filler season that destroys the logic of this well put together si-fi world.

Anime is good, fucking deal with it.

I must say the single best bit on the movie only makes true sense if one's watched some bits of S2:

More objectively though:

You really won't miss anything if you don't watch S2. I would say the only thing you might not catch is Sibyl's relationship with the new Inspector, Mika Shimotsuki. She's a Sibyl fanatic, and Sibyl takes full advantage of her to gain an upper hand on Akane's team. You'll probably catch that in the movie, but you won't catch how deep down the rabbit hole Mika really is, which S2 will show you. Whenever Sibyl calls Shimotsuki = foul play. That's all you need to know to enjoy the movie.

I suggest watching the first two episodes of Psycho-Pass Season 2 as you will be introduced to the new enforcers. After that, you can proceed to the movie.

Season 2 introduces new characters (rather poorly) so yes, you might as well watch it (despite S2 is horrible).
