While it was a little slow for my taste, I did like all the freaky stuff going on (like that guy getting covered in darkness). That stomach-worm was disgusting though.

^Yeah Bison was based on Kato.

I absolutely love this; oldschool occult/demon horror that's really atmospheric, sinister and surreal. Can see a big Kawajiri influence in the deep, bold colours and silhouetting.

~
I've actually got the earlier live-action adaptation and it's totally different; I think Kato's snatch of Yukari at the end here happens in the first ten minutes or so there, much prefer this pacing.

Don't think it's much of a spoiler (as it doesn't even figure into the story in this) but in the film Yukari's chosen because she and her brother are descendents of Masakado (which is kinda confusing considering a later female character).

There's barely any focus on their twisted sibling relationship in the film; her brother's even the hero! What's really missing in the anime is Kato's awesome female sidekick but I think it manages with the occult scenes well enough without her.

Kato's seiyu is the same guy who played him in the film iirc.

This is probably my favorite piece of fiction. Based on a series of 14 books. The story spans from the 1800s to the future. They have never been translated but this story is based off of 2 of them in the middle.

PS: the original author designed the character and drew him decades before M. Bison (Vega) was created.

The artistic direction is actually pretty great for its time and limited budget. The story is unpleasant but hilariously hammy at times, but overall a decent-to-great production.
