| Hey folks, no crazy spoilers here because I haven't read the manga yet (I'll get to it when it's no longer on hold at my library ^_^ ) So this goes out to any anime viewers and manga readers: I'm a bit confused as to what Mikage did to Tomoe's memory... in the first season Tomoe says he sometimes longs for his more exciting days as a yokai before becoming a familiar (then tells Kurama he's glad Nanami is his master because there will be more yokai to beat in the future) and although he doesn't remember his love for Yukiji, he remembers that he can't go into the ocean because he pissed off the Dragon King by stealing his eye. Yet in the second season he doesn't seem to remember why he approached Mikage covered in blood (right before he made the contract to become a familiar) or much else from his former life. Is it just that Mikage glazed over certain elements of Tomoe's life, so he remembers bits and pieces (and doesn't seem to mind the holes very much, like why go through the trouble of stealing a powerful yokai's eye and risk not being able to enter the ocean for centuries, or his motivation for becoming a familiar) OR he can't remember his past before Mikage at all? (Which is obviously not the case since he remembers the eye and being a wild fox.) Any help/explanations/theories would be appreciated, but if it's explained more in depth in the manga and I should just read that that also works as an answer :) |
| Ok, not sure if this is gonna be of any help, but here I go.. Beware of some possible spoilers! First of all, I believe Tomoe wanted to become a human, not a familiar, for Yukiji, so they could live and grow old together. Stuff went wrong and Tomoe was left with a curse which would slowly kill him. And that's where Mikage comes in and makes Tomoe his familiar while progressively making him forget. The "covered in blood" part refers to that curse as it's been growing all over his body and looked as if he's drenched in blood. In order to subside the curse and save Tomoe from dying, I'm thinking Mikage made him forget only the fact that he loved Yukiji and her existence itself, which was the root of it all. Hence why when confronted about her by Nanami, Tomoe has no idea what she's on about. He didn't forget about the eye and stuff, because knowing his ridiculously violent agenda resulting from hanging out with Akura Ou a lot, well, I'm guessing it wouldn't be all that strange... And again, he didn't forget these things, because Yukiji had nothing to do with them. Seriously though, you really really should read the manga sometime, it's amazing and it just might help clear up your confusion~ :) |
| It's super hard to answer this question without spoiling everything for you. ^.^ I suggest reading the manga from chapter 60 onwards to find out the answer to your question, lol. However, I think I can tell you this much. Tomoe wanted to become a human to marry Yukiji, so he goes to a fallen god and has a contract put on him that he will die with Yukiji and become human, but Yukiji dies before they can marry...there's also other issues there. ;) So anyway, he doesn't turn human because they aren't married, but he also has to die because the contract was sealed with the god. Tomoe goes to Mikage and Mikage erases all the memories to do with Yukiji, but nothing else, which is why he remembers some things and not others. Also, Nanami is unknowingly awakening memories of Yukiji in Tomoe so that also explains some of his memories. |
