This must be the point were Jose is revealed to be a saiyajin and Ashita no Joe becomes a shounen.... My goodness, Jose.

LOL XD.

Jose definitely reminds me alot of Date from Hajime no Ippo...both uses the corkscrew punch + veteran boxer with the title :P

idk i feel like corkscrew punch is something joe should have faced by now, joe a pro boxer and a champion not knowing what a corkscrew punch is that weird. I get this is not trying to be as realistic as hajime no ippo when it comes to its techniques but still.

The moment I saw Jose's punch I knew it was the corkscrew one, the same punch Date from Hajime no Ippo used. Gotta say, in this show it's as deadly as in Hajime no Ippo... Jose really is a beast, the one and only true champion, a champion amongst champions. The guy dying was unexpected, well, what can I say, I guess that's what happens when you fight against such heavy punchers, the body just can't take them...

So the way Jose (and Carlos earlier) takes punches is the same as Date Eiji, not to mention his corkscrew punch.

Looks like everybody dies or is seriously injured. Moreover, every boxer has been shown in unsympathetic light, although some have redeemed themselves or it's been explained by their background. The series has its moments of victory, but it's not glorifying the sport, and it's especially critical of the audience's and the media's bloodlust that encourages boxers to go beyond their limits.

I that get there's a message, but at this point the deaths start to feel pointless, which makes them more like self-parody. When Rikiishi died, that was surprising and different, but now it's just more of the same. It's not good for any series if character deaths start to seem inevitable.

Gomu Gomu no Rifle!

What a scary man Jose is, letting Gomez hit him out of respect.
And here we have another death in the show, I'm really scared for their fight now :/

Is the corkscrew punch legit? It sounds like something this anime just made up to increase drama, and I can't imagine how twisting your wrist would actually matter in a real fight. It's not like you can twist it fast enough to have any effect like "drilling", it seems like the only difference is going to be what way the fist is pointing.
