THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER.
----------------------------------------
The story opens with the 30th birthday of the protagonist, Meme. Only one person bothered to wish her a happy birthday on that day, however, since it also coincided with the funeral of a woman everyone in town adored, the wife of the man Meme has been in love with for over 15 years.

This first chapter gives us the basic setup, with the history of kind rejection every time Meme confessed to Souta. He is five years older than her and her childhood friend. She first confessed at the age of 13, then again at 16. She was ready to try again at the age of 20, but was cut short by Souta informing her that he was getting married and that his future bride was pregnant.

Ten years later, Haru, Souta's wife, died and Meme is left pining for him still. Jump forward a year to the memorial service at the end of the mourning period. Now we are introduced to a couple of the other childhood chums of Meme, both former classmates: Kyouichi, the priest in training at the local temple, and Shun, Souta's younger brother. The other major character in the chapter is Souta's daughter, Yuu. Mentioned in the chapter and, I presume, appearing in the future, it Meme's older sister, who is returning from doing research overseas.

The story so far is poignant, sad, and well told. It is all background and character building at this point. The art, similar to earlier the works by Takako Shimura, Wandering Son (Hōrō Musuko) and Sweet Blue Flowers (Aoi Hana), is light on backgrounds and, in the color pages, has a very "watercolor" feel to it. The character designs are attractive but realistic, with the characters not overly gorgeous.

All in all, it is a manga to look forward to.
