One thing that bothers me with this anime is that despite it being called the Star of the East, we only see characters based on Japan. Yet in the West Star, we see multiple characters based on different european figures like Caesar, Arthur, Da Vinci, and Alexander. Would it kill for the creator to have more variety with characters in the East like maybe Sun Tzu, or Gojoseon? Why not add characters from other Asian countries?

Well, there's Chandragupta.

I think the point was to use figures who would be considered "exotic" to the Japanese audience.

You'll note Chandragupta is on the West side. Like I read somewhere that in Japan curry is considered Western cuisine.

To answer BaiHu, I think it's about priorities. Did Kawamori wanted to give a wide vison of the East? No, his focus is on Nobunaga and his close relations. So that makes the name East star wrong, but less obnoxious than calling it the Star of Dainihon.

If you reverse the point of views I can imagine an English director focusing on the Tudors because they're close to him, and then putting a bunch of random opponents against them. Or an Italian one on the Medicis'.

That said I'm getting disappointed in the anime lately. The dialogues and scenes that I suppose are close to the play barely compare to even bad John Webster. As a retelling of Nobunaga's life it's more anecdotical than insightful. And as an anime it's heavily inspired by Star Driver and Glass Fleet. The shallowness starts to impede my fun.

I find it strange though that Chandragupta was put on the West Star.

Hm I suppose that makes sense. I just thought it was strange that there was no variety in the East Star. I can agree that the anime is getting stale. It had an interesting premise at the beginning with the two stars and I'm a huge fan of mecha anime. The story just got boring to me all of a sudden. It doesn't help that most of the characters aren't really likable to me either.

Ah, seems I didn't read the OP properly.

I have to agree (and I'm a little behind) that the treatment of the "western" figures have been rather disappointing and rather uninteresting. I'm not up to date, but the only western character I much like has been Da Vinci. I'm still quite amused that Hannibal was genderbent.

Characters aren't bad imo, but for some reason Kawamori chose a "tell, don't show" logic (granted it's often favored in anime/manga to make it easy to read/view) and for me that makes it hard to feel things for the character.
Starting to feel like the anime is just going through the motions.

I don't think there was anything about Nell and Biancchi that stood out. They were there just to be there. As for Caesar and Ichihime, I never really liked the characters to begin with, so their deaths did nothing for me either. I felt like the Kawamori had Caesar change so much just so that we can like the character, but to me, the changes felt forced and it just made me dislike him more.

I get annoyed when all people talk about when they talk about show is what they don;t like.

So many people are just haters and like hating on shit/people I dont get it.

I think this show is great.

What other show do you get to see oda nobunaga vs alexander the great in giant mechas fighting over fate of the universe?

King Arthur is some crazy alien / diety who wants to summon the holy grail and alter the universe. And he even pulled up excalibur and gave it to Caeser!

Havent watched latest ep yet but IMO this show got really good.

I really enjoy it!

Its not that I hate the show, but rather there are just some things that I feel are weak with it. Every form of media is prone to criticism, and not everyone will enjoy it the same way. If you like it, then that's great. I just feel a little let down by some of the events that have transpired recently.
