You know when it happens...you've been watching so much anime that you've just got bored of it. Days pass, and weeks pass, and you don't feel like watching any of it.

The reason why I brought this up is because I exited a period of burnout two weeks ago. I had watched a lot of anime and J-dramas earlier in the summer, and stopped watching it after July 1. Completely. I watched two episodes of Lucky Star on August 1, but was still in the burnout phase, as I wasn't really that interested. I finally exited it on September 11, around 70 days after I entered it. During that time, I had been watching a lot of British television and other movies - anything other than anime. I got out of it because I felt like watching another episode of Lucky Star, and remembered why I liked anime - it felt cute, unique, and distinctly Japanese. I had seen some other slice-of-life shows before that, but I hadn't watched any anime in a while, so it felt like I was getting into it again for the first time.

Since then, I have been limiting myself to about 1-2 episodes of anime per day (with 3 at the very most). I might skip a day or two, and watch something different. Before, I had been watching anywhere from 4-7 episodes per day (every day), and it had evidently wore me out. Now, I have more of a balance, and I hopefully won't burn out anytime soon.

Has anyone else had an experience where they had burnout? (This doesn't include something routine - if you only watch anime once every other week, and that hasn't changed, it's not burnout.) If so, how long was it?

Well - I just went through another 2 months of burnout. I got bored with Lucky Star, and had no interest in anime though October and November. I decided to start watching some more again, and chose Monster as my new series. The show is very interesting, and hopefully I won't burn out again. (I'm watching around 1-2 episodes a day of it, but I'm also watching non-anime programming.)

Well...I just went through 3 more years of burnout. Anime just fell off my level of priorities, and I totally forgot about my large collection that I had amassed.

Fast forward to today. I now have a job with the US Postal Service, and had a rare weekday off. So...I was just listening to some DJ Sharpnel songs, and remembered how much I enjoyed watching anime about 5 years ago. I decided to watch the first episode of Magical Lyrical Girl Nanoha a few hours ago, and I enjoyed the episode.

I don't know how long this renewed interest will last, but I will balance it out with other things. I am probably not going to watch 6-10 episodes per day like I used to, and will just stick to my current backlog of unwatched shows rather than looking for new ones.
