This didn't make any sense. And how did Umi know everything about the fractal already? Why that particular festival? Perhaps I'll re-read this sometime soon.

This was an excellent manga, though with complex mathematical ideas translated into a peculiar theme, I can definitely see why most people wouldn't like it or what it was getting at going over their heads. As someone with a math and physics background this was brilliant, a bit peculiar but an interesting method of translating the nature of fractals into a storytelling method. Though I suppose it is flawed in that its complexity can't be appreciated or understood if you don't have some kind of mathematical reasoning to see what the author was doing (otherwise it would just appear very disjointed and random and stupid), so it has a VERY narrow appeal.

Overall excellent but certainly not for everyone. Interesting to see a manga with that kind of focus on a specific kind of readership.

I'm reminded of Subahib and Qualia no Purple.

Except Subahibi and Qualia no Purple were better.

It's all well and good to have strange and complex concepts interwoven in your story, or even have them be the main point of the story, but you have to either explain them in some detail, or you have to have other things happening to make the story more entertaining.

Subahibi has much more meat to it than just philosophy and Tsui no Sora. It's an exciting, twisted, and gripping character drama. The strange happenings make sense even if you don't understand the philosophy.

Qualia no Purple explains quantum mechanics enough so that the readers can understand what's going on, and it makes for an interesting plot point. But it also has good drama, and demonstrates the abstract concept concretely through a variety of settings and characters. The drama is also a lot better.

Qualia no Purple and Gyakusou Shoujo are very alike, but Qualia has deeper characters, many more interesting plot points and situations, and a better ending. Oh, and better drama, too.

Gyakusou Shoujo has 4 characters that are lightly explored but aren't all that interesting in the first place, the only plot points are the Romanesco Festival, a death 10 years ago, and the identity of our strange male lead. And back-stepping. Which is enough, I guess, but it doesn't do enough with those things.

Why should I care about Rukuo and Umi's relationship if we never see how they interact together aside from them both being good at maths?

Umi is about the only character that is explored well, and the pay-off is meh.

It's never explained why the protagonist becomes such a timid, backward-looking girl. It makes you think that there was some kind of deeply-scarring event like a kidnapping that changed her personality so drastically. But this like a one-off event that only happens to one of her, so I don't get it.

Did she just change because time marches on? Is this some kind of fractal-related thing that I'm not getting because I'm not a mathematician? The starting triangle is what's most important.

I get that I'm not really owed an explanation, but if you wave it in my face that Umi is a super-timid girl and that the protagonist is super proactive and domineering, I'm expecting some pay-off for both of those characters. Umi's transformation is explained, but our protagonist's transformation is not given a mere stray word, after the first time she sees her past self.

Also...Manaka's creepily worded texts and updates on his website are apparently romantic? Maybe it's just the bad English translation, but it looks like the kind of fragmented stuff that some creepy stalker would write.

I feel like this series could have easily been twice as long, but I also feel that it's ridiculously padded at the same time. It was two whole volumes long, which is a decent amount of time to tell a story this simple.

Could have been better, but it's not that bad.

Finally someone appreciating romanesco broccoli i love it

It was a good short manga. I didnt like the heroine or any other character, expect of Manaka.
Many things were left unexplained and it annoyed me a lot but at least the ending was good!
