I have decided to release a first experimental version of iMAL to get feedback on the anime recognition engine working with mplayer. Get iMAL to work on your system: iMAL will only work on systems with MacOSX Leopard. 1) Download and install: http://cloud.github.com/downloads/pigoz/imal/iMAL.zip 2) Open iMAL preferences and insert you mal user and password 3) Refresh (cmd+R or press the refresh toolbar button), your list should get downloaded and indexed (if you have an insanely big list or a slow machines this can take some time, on my average list of ~130 entries this takes around one minute). 4) Play something in mplayer, every 10 seconds iMAL will try to recognize if the file being played did change, and if it did iMAL will try to recognize and scrobble it automatically. The system console will give quite some info on the recognition process. State of the Engine At the moment iMAL will scrobble a TVShow/OVA only if you are playing the next episode to the one in your list, this is to spot errors in the recognition algorithm. If you are playing an episode number that iMAL is not expecting it will complain (it is considered a recognition fault). If you spot errors in the recognition open the system log console (search console in spotlight) and copy-paste the relevant recognition data here, for example: "Console" said: 8/20/09 3:51:21 PM iMAL[2188] Detected file playing: /Volumes/external#1/Anime Series/Aim For The Top! 2 [Lunar]/[Lunar] Gunbuster 2 - 01 [DVD][AC3][4DF73704].avi 8/20/09 3:51:21 PM iMAL[2188] Detected file to recognize: Gunbuster 2 01 8/20/09 3:51:21 PM iMAL[2188] Relevant matches (ordered by relevance score): 8/20/09 3:51:21 PM iMAL[2188] 1: Top wo Nerae! 2, score: 38, id: 1002 8/20/09 3:51:21 PM iMAL[2188] 2: Top wo Nerae!, score: 34, id: 949 8/20/09 3:51:21 PM iMAL[2188] 3: Mobile Suit Gundam, score: 10, id: 80 8/20/09 3:51:21 PM iMAL[2188] 4: Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, score: 10, id: 90 8/20/09 3:51:21 PM iMAL[2188] 5: Mobile Suit Gundam Seed, score: 10, id: 93 8/20/09 3:51:21 PM iMAL[2188] 6: Turn A Gundam, score: 10, id: 95 Movies are always scrobbled, and I think getting the recognition working for most of the movies will be quite challenging. I'm also taking suggestions on any other part of the program. |

Wow, it looks quite polished for an alpha release. Lol, nice easter egg with the "?" button. A suggestion for this is an ability to change from picture view to list view. |

list view will eventually get implemented: it will be handy for bigger lists since I recognize the iconview eats quite some memory. |

First thing that comes to my mind is this is awesome, can't believe it's only alpha. |

I will probably support VLC in the future since it will finally get a good libass version in the next release. Quicktime+perian based players are going to be very low priority (if implemented at all) since they are very bad for watching anime. |

Umm.... sorry for the stupid question but this has been bugging me, in the "to do before beta" you say "Update system with Sparkle" what does that mean exactly (just curious) (is very stupid when it comes to programming) :( |

That's very understandable, school should always come first. |

It looks like it will be great. I just can't wait for a bug free release. (or one that doesn't crash every 15 seconds) But is this project even active anymore? It says that the latest update was about a year ago.... |

I'm not really that much active on MAL anymore and Xinil never addressed the problems API. Also I'm spending most of my animu related hacking time on mplayer2 which I think is more important in terms of scale and usefulness for the user. |
