Honestly, I'm just personally bothered by "degenerate" anime clichés such as fanservice, lolis, harems, casual sexism, etc. It feels like they degrade the quality of so many shows for so little purpose, falling victim to perverse Japanese market incentives and treating the audience like braindead perpetually horny NEETs.
Here's a pretentious mission statement:
Our view of which particular behaviors constitute "degeneracy" is ever-evolving. Defining depravity is an ongoing process, one which necessitates introspection. We must therefore always ask ourselves, "Are we the retards in this situation?" We cannot know for sure, but synthesizing and refining the truth of our reality is our guiding motivation.
I would like to use this space to
- Constructively criticize unproductive, trite, irritating tendencies of Japan's anime industry
- Provide critical analysis of specific decisions to sexualize certain characters, whether doing so benefitted the characterization or plot, and the broader implications of such decisions
- Recommend shows that don't fall prey to such unseemly marketing schemes
- Bully coomers
