This is just a start towards creating a new anime and manga fan club in the Chicago area. Since it's just starting you really have the chance to make your voice heard! One other club (not on MAL) exists but they are really more interested in board meetings or getting 10% discounts at mediocre restaurants than anything else.
If you dream of being on the board of directors of a club where you spend an hour debating what anime to discuss next month, that's a great place to go...if the Founder deems you sufficiently worthy. Fuck that.
If you want to plan anime viewing events, parties, serious discussions, and more, then this club is for you. The Chicago Anime Society is a team effort and everyone gets a say. Our events will be original because we're doing them for ourselves. Our serious presentations will matter because the presenters created them with pasion and their intimate knowledge of their subject.
But really, let's just start off by being social and making new friendships. That's more important than anything else.
