Monstercat (previously known as Monstercat Media) is an electronic dance music record label based out of Vancouver, Canada.The label was founded in July 2011 by Mike Darlington, CEO, and Ari Paunonen, COO.
Monstercat signs artists for single releases only, rather than exclusivity deals, which lets its artists have copyright control of their song and the ability to release tracks on other record labels.The label follows a cycle where three new tracks are released on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, as well as an hour-long podcast - which used to be only 30 minutes long - on Thursday, each week. This cycle continues until there have been thirty new tracks since the last album release. At that point, a new album is released containing the previous thirty songs and two continuous mixes of the album. The mixes are also released on Monstercat's YouTube channel. Artists' EPs and albums are not included in the album release and must be purchased separately.
