Starfleet Academy Cultural Anthropology Department

Information

The mission of the Starfleet Academy Cultural Anthropology Department is to uphold the First Duty of Starfleet - the Truth, whether it be scientific Truth, historical Truth or personal Truth.

Seriously, though, this is a club for intellectual, literary, historical and didactic discussion on anime and manga. This is a place where people can reflect on the meaning of anime and manga and discuss their theories, or discuss their theories on a particular character, plot, or plot device, whether it be a particular concept that character represents, the personal "in-universe" history of that character, etc.

This club was created as a "public access" response to the Critics & Connoisseurs  club - with a bit of a twist to indulge my Trekkie-ness :p

Lol. It's been a while since I last heard from you, Torisunanohokori. Regarding C&C, it's not really that bad. It's a decent place for discussion and I'm currently too damn lazy to take a shot at reviving Fight Club. =P

I can kind of understand your frustration on ZnT. I myself was close to dropping it after episode 1, but I gave it a chance long enough to watch episode 2, when Saito stood up to Quiche and ended up winning. It says in my profile that I like strong characters, and Saito does show a certain strength of character at times. I got kind of attached to him, and I enjoyed season 1, so I gave it an 8. The fact that Louise acts like a very amateurish S&M mistress was a bit of a turn-off, though. If I didn't like Saito, then I probably would have hated it too. I almost considered favoriting him instead of Koenji Makito before I watched season 2 (which I can totally understand your hating). I saw a boob obsession from him and the entire cast that just wasn't there in season 1. They just made boob jokes left and right without any regard to whether the joke fit the characters. I would have rated the whole thing a lot lower if not for the scene between Colbert and Agnes in episode 9, which I did enjoy, in spite of all the cliche dialogue.
