The Coalition Against Duplicate Clubs

Information
The outbreak of Duplicate Clubs is seemingly uncontrollable, but MAL remains largely ignorant of these clubs. Looking below should offer some insight into the problem that we are faced with. What is a “duplicate club”? “Duplicate club” is a term coined by Flame_Haze to describe any club that serves a similar or identical purpose as a pre-existing club. Why is this an issue? This is an issue for a multitude of reasons, including but not limited to:

Draining members from the original club
Cluttering the club database
Wasting the capacity of our server

When is a club considered a duplicate? As stated above, a club is a duplicate when it serves a similar or identical purpose to a pre-existing club. However, there are extenuating circumstances that justify the creation of a duplicate club such as:

Inactive administration or complete lack thereof
Completely inactive club with an administrator unwilling to allow new leadership to help

What can you do to help? Members are the backbone of MAL, and as with any democratic system, the people can bring about change. Invite new members and spread the word of the waste that Duplicate Clubs create. Check the clubs you are in and inform creators if their clubs are duplicates. Any propositions to solve the problem of duplicate clubs without making an excess of work for moderators are welcome. Please feel free to contribute to our List of Duplicate Clubs, an idea devised by club officer ZinnKid. With your support, we may just get enough members to make a difference for the better.
_________________________________________________________________

Club Banners Userbars

Going on as in existing? Yes.
Going on as in active? Unfortunately no.

This still going on?

Yesh, it would definitely have to be forced as no one would do it otherwise. That would also discourage members who care too little to follow the rules from joining as well, decreasing the amount of potential problems.

An idea I have is for all mal users to be forced to take a tutorial of mal via flash and they'd have to follow it and learn not to make duplicates, to check things with the search function, to read the rules, to have clubs approved by mods who check themselves to make sure the club isn't a duplicate that would act as more of an assurance since they might not even check at all.
