Information Slipknot bassist Paul Gray #2 aka The Pig, who was also a founding member of the band, was found dead in an Iowa hotel room Monday morning. The cause of his death could not be determined with an autopsy, though any foul play has been ruled out,and paul was dead several hours before his body was found.
Polk County Medical Examiner Gregory Schmunk said that toxicology results could take four to six weeks.
The remaining eight members of the band, known for its grotesque masks, thrashing sound and aggressive lyrics, made a rare unmasked appearance together in commemoration of their lost mate.
Contrasting the loud appearance that they are known for, the band members looked jaded as they sat through the press conference on Tuesday evening. They were joined by Gray’s pregnant widow Brenna, and brother, Tony.

A hypodermic needle and bottles of pills found in Gray's room at TownePlace Suites in Urbandale were not the first signs that the musician struggled with drug abuse: Gray talked about near-death experiences with drugs in a 2008 magazine interview. On Thursday, another successful Des Moines musician and a doctor who treated Gray talked about how easy it can be to fall prey to addiction, which has claimed countless rock musicians.
Gray's body was discovered about 10:50 a.m. by a maintenance worker at TownePlace Suites, 8800 Northpark Drive. A cause of death has not been determined.
According to a recording of the 911 call, the worker, Mike Kellow, checked the room after Gray's mother called to say she could not reach Gray by phone.
"We believe this gentleman has passed away," Kellow told the 911 dispatcher during a call that lasted more than six minutes. "We believe it's a drug overdose."

A hypodermic needle lay near the bed, and "all kinds of pills" surrounded Gray, who was hunched over in the corner of the room, Kellow said.
Gray's hands and legs were purple, he told the dispatcher. "He's been gone awhile."
Kellow checked the label of one of the prescription bottles; it bore Gray's name.
Urbandale Police Sgt. Dave Disney declined to name the specific drugs found in the room. He said police would examine the toxicology report, expected in four to six weeks, before determining whether charges might be filed in connection with the prescriptions.
Gray's history with drugs was no secret. He pleaded guilty in 2003 to driving under the influence of drugs after he crashed his Porsche into a Des Moines motorist.
Gray talked about his drug use during that time in a 2008 interview with Revolver Magazine.
"I did a lot of drinking and some drugs - some heavy, heavy drugs ... lots of heroin," he said. "I was shooting speedballs every day. And then pills ... I became an addict."
At some point during that time, Gray's bandmates held an intervention, and Gray went to rehab in California.
Gray's court file from 2003 contains a letter from Dr. Joe Takamine, a California physician who is an expert in alcoholism and other drug dependencies.
"In light of his past and present history and because of his great love of music, I feel that Mr. Gray will refrain from future use of mind-altering chemicals," Takamine wrote.
Contacted Thursday, Takamine couldn't call Gray to mind. But he said he had been fooled before by patients who said they no longer needed to use drugs.
Takamine has seen the connection between music and drugs countless times. He treated former Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson for alcoholism shortly before his death in 1983.
"I don't know if it's the hours, the company, the groupies," he said.
Envy Corps singer Luke Pettipoole of Des Moines has talked openly about his past struggle to overcome alcoholism while in a touring band. He said mind-altering substances can feel empowering to a musician trying to create, and that success may lead musicians to be irresponsible.
"You have the freedom to kind of do whatever you want," Pettipoole said. "It's easy to fall into that. It's night after night, because you're just out on the road."
Gray made a similar statement in the Revolver interview about the time spent touring in support of Slipknot's third major-label album, recorded in 2003.
"We got back out on the road and I just knew too many people and I started using a lot again on and off," he said. "I had some near-death experiences."
At the time of the interview, he had been clean for two years, he said.<!--spoiler--></span></div>
