H. P. Lovecraft Fanclub

Information
Howard Phillips Lovecraft (August 20, 1890 – March 15, 1937) was an American author of horror, fantasy, and science fiction, known then simply as weird fiction. Lovecraft's major inspiration and invention was cosmic horror, the idea that life is incomprehensible to human minds and that the universe is fundamentally alien. Those who genuinely reason, like his protagonists, gamble with sanity. Lovecraft has developed a cult following for his Cthulhu Mythos, a series of loosely interconnected fiction featuring a pantheon of human-nullifying entities, as well as the Necronomicon, a fictional grimoire of magical rites and forbidden lore. His works were deeply pessimistic and cynical, challenging the values of the Enlightenment, Romanticism, and Christian humanism. Lovecraft's protagonists usually achieve the mirror-opposite of traditional gnosis and mysticism by momentarily glimpsing the horror of ultimate reality. Although Lovecraft's readership was limited during his life, his reputation has grown over the decades, and he is now commonly regarded as one of the most influential horror writers of the 20th century.

Del Toro had his heart in the right place and ATMOM would probably have been the most "adaption-friendly" Lovecraft work, but it probably wouldn't be able to live up to expectations. Prometheus, I think, at least has the makings for cosmic horror in the sequels.

Speaking of Lovecraft inspired things, Bloodborne is definitely going in that direction. It's influenced by Gothic horror (of which Lovecraft could be considered at the tail end of) but that thing at the end looks straight up Eldritch.

Yeah. Del Toro wanted to adapt Mountains of Madness though, I kinda wanted to see it because I love the athmosphere he creates but he stopped considering it after problems with Hollywood and Prometheus. It's quite impossible to adapt HPL perfectly (and many stories are unadaptable, like Nameless City), but I kinda enjoy movies/comics etc. nonetheless as long as they aren't just a random action horror with eldritch references.
Speaking of MoM, I found this short animation movie here by some fan on yt

The more I think about it, the more I realize Lovecraft's works can never be properly adapted to film. The best we could hope for is something that has a Lovecraftian atmosphere like Alien. Too bad Giger is dead now...

The guys that made The Colour are about to make a movie adaption of HPL's dreamland stuff. It still needs to be funded, though.

And yeah, there is no anime for this if you ignore the fun but meaningless reference shenanigans. I didn't even bother watching Nyaruko so far.

Some of Junji Ito's mango are similar, but they have a very campy feel to them. It's a shame that most of his works are only referenced by the retarded internet" LOL CTHULHU XD" crowd.

neo: there are probably none
i have seen far more than a hundred of short and long movies based around his works, but i know of no anime of the kind
even mentioned "dunwich horror and other stories" isn't exactly an anime, it just happened to be made by the japanese
