The story: Hikari Hanazono has always been second to Kei Takishima. When they were six years old, their pro-wrestling loving fathers introduced them to each other. Assuming that she was the best in wrestling, young Hikari challenged Kei to a wrestling match only to be thoroughly defeated by him. Ever since that fateful incident, Hikari swore to beat Kei in school grades, sporting events - anything. To do this, she has enrolled in the same school as Kei since elementary. Now she attends Hakusenkan, an ultra elite school, that costs her carpenter father a lot of money. Hikari and Kei are the top two students in the school, with Kei holding firmly to that number one position. While Hikari considers Kei to be a rival and important friend, she is completely unaware that Kei loves her. She's a kind girl who always worries whether others are having fun. She is second place in 10th grade for best grades, but is sometimes lacking in common sense. Stubborn, proud, and hot-headed, Hikari never backs down from a challenge, especially one from Kei, as she is constantly looking for an opportunity to surpass him. She's good at everything except for cooking and teaching. Although she can handle her own in a fight (often against boys), Kei, nevetheless, gets irritated whenever she puts herself in danger, thus treating her more like a female than she does herself. Stupid when it comes to love, as Kei is in love with her and everyone knows except her...she is very dense. When Kei shows any affection to her, she usually regards it as a joke, or just plain scary. When Yahiro first told her Kei is in love with her, she first freaked out, then later laughed it off as an impossibility (since they "are rivals," it would be "too weird"). She starts to fall in love with Kei in volume 4 but she hasn't noticed yet.<!--spoiler--></span></div> Kei Takishima <div class="spoiler"><input type="button" class="button" onClick="this.nextSibling.nextSibling.style.display='block';this.style.display='none';" value="Show spoiler"> <span class="spoiler_content" style="display:none"><input type="button" class="button" onClick="this.parentNode.style.display='none';this.parentNode.parentNode.childNodes[0].style.display='block';" value="Hide spoiler"><br><img src="http://cdn.myanimelist.net/images/characters/15/38866.jpg" border="0"> Kei is always a smooth winner, he's rarely seen stressed out or concerned unless it involves Hikari in trouble. He likes to refer to Hikari as "Number Two," or "Miss Rank Two" which never fails to provoke her. He has the ability to remember anything he reads, including phone numbers. He excells at all subject from academics to athletics to martial arts. He usually prefers to do things on his own, until Hikari shows him how much fun it can be to work together with other people. He is first in 10th grade for best grades. He is in love with Hikari, but she is too dense to notice it. Although he doesn't come straight out and admit it, it is common knowledge among the SA that he loves her, and Kei himself also doesn't deny it. The reason he hasn't confessed his love to her or asked her out is because he figured, knowing her, she'd probably just laugh it off (yes, for all her intellectual excellence, she is quite stupid/naive/innocent when it comes to love). Although he is stoic most of the time and always keeps a calm facade under any circumstance, things involving Hikari are the only ones that bring out intense anxiety within him. It bothers him whenever Hikari pushes herself too hard, although it is for this very reason that he admires and respects her. It is known that whenever he is kissed by a girl or major affection is going on, he turns into a bad boy (he has a split personality). He, too, has an odd attachment to Ryuu, but is dating Sakura. Megumi doesn't like to speak because she wants to protect her voice and only use it when singing. Instead, she writes on a sketchbook to communicate. The only person she is seen speaking to is Yahiro. When he does speak, listen to him. He's wiser than he looks and acts. He is the son of the district school manager. He frequently likes to vanish on some journey and return later for special school events. He likes Akira beating him up. He is 5th in 10th grade for grades. She is very enthusiastic about her afternoon tea, and has even constructed her own kitchen so she can make tea properly. She was good friends with Yahiro and Kei as a child, but due to Yahiro's protective and somewhat selfish behavior (and a misunderstanding Yahiro never corrected), she avoids him as best she can. She loves Tadashi and even confesses her love to him eventually (it was an accident: she didn't know it was him who had entered the kitchen). She is the daughter of the owner of an airline company.
