Well, main characters + homoerotic undertones all around, that's why.

I don’t like the Albert x Monte Cristo ship. Idk why it’s so popular

Greeting everyone this club has probably been inactive for awhile so i going to get some things straight

Gankutsuou is without the doubt One of the Best Anime that has ever been. One of the few works out there that has every bit of well done perfectly, Music, Story, Art , Characters everything and one of the few real works that has somehow actually has been adapted from a source of work and actually improved upon it rather than be diminished although some might argue on me on this.

Now i wait patiently to add this to my collection for it is a true masterpiece that forever needs to be with me

I will admit i was sad when it had ended but it started and ended so wonderfully that i rather have stay as it is

Now aim here to meet other ppl who have enjoyed this series as much as i do and hope i can meet u all :)

We are all enamoured with this unique anime. It is impossible not to be.

I had just finished watching Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo today, and I must say that I will never find another anime quite like this one. Many people who I know who have seen this anime say that they couldn't watch it because of the constantly changing patterns, but I was not bothered at all.

While this is not the first anime I have seen with this much stunning visuals and dialogue, I can say with certainty that this is by far the best anime I have ever seen. I might have gotten too enamored with the anime, because not only do I find myself typing like an aristocrat, but I also constantly hear the Count's voice in my head. However, I am not complaining, merely fascinated with how much I have come to love this particular anime.

I have yet to finish the novel or watch the movie, but I doubt I'll ever like it as much I did this anime. I keep wanting to re-watch it, but my ps2 stopped playing dvds. lllOTLlll

@Aironically - I'm glad that you found just as much enjoyment during your re-watch. I def need to do that... as it's been over a year. Such an amazing show.

I finished rewatching the anime for the first time in a year or two, last night. I loved it as much as I did when I first watched, even though I'm now familiar with the novel. Truly, there can be no better adaptation with differences made. It's such a shame that Gonzo are in the situation they're now in, having made one of the greatest anime of all-time. They dared to do what no-one else would and I respect them for taking on the task of adapting such a lengthy and actionless story.

I found the 2002 film to be horrible, assuming it's the one where Albert turned out to be Edmond's son and all they lived together happilly ever after. Fake, hastily written rubbish. Edmond's plan was simplified/butchered, the short prison bit was far too rushed to carry any weight and the whole chess piece thing was lame.

It's impossible to not butcher such a dialogue heavy story when adapting it into a single movie. Even Gankutsuou only worked because Edmond was shifted from the position of main character.
