Yushi Huang, also known as Lord Rain Master, is one of the Elemental Masters in charge of rain and agriculture. She is also known as one of the Four Famous Tales, "The Princess Who Slit Her Throat". Yushi Huang is renowned to be a recluse and to live isolated from the heavens, so much so that no one in the Heavenly Court knows of her interests. She rarely appears and simply works on the fields deep within the mountains.
Though she's not fond of meeting people, Yushi Huang is a compassionate soul as she knew Xie Lian's plight and agreed to lend her spiritual device to aid him in the time of need. She is always willing and quick to help out, even if it means to go against authority. She bears no grudge against people she's had conflict with, willing to save them without hesitation. She even performed a passing service to Xuan Ji after she dispersed. Even though she doesn't have many acquaintances in the Heavenly Court, none who knows her spoke badly of her with the exception of Pei Ming. As a goddess, she forbade her followers from using their money for lavish worship. Because of that, her followers would use fresh fruits and vegetables as an offering. She also disliked letting food go to waste so even those would be retaken after a few days by the followers to be eaten.
She wears verdant robes and has a scar across her neck that she acquired after slitting her throat with a sword. It causes her to speak slower than others, but her voice is still serene and tranquil. When she was alive, she was the sixteenth princess of the kingdom of Yushi, and also the least favored.
In her time, Yushi and the kingdom of Xuli had maintained a false peace, until Xuli made up an excuse to invade. Their troops, led by Pei Ming, pushed all the way to the palace gates. Pei Ming, under Rong Guang's advice, disguised hundreds of Yushi criminals who were awaiting execution as normal civilians and dragged them before the palace gates. Then, he told the then king that if he would come out himself, kowtow three times as "penance for oppressing the people" and then kill himself as atonement, he would let the "civilians" free. If he should refuse, Pei Ming would chop off the civilians' heads. He gave the royalties three days, and each day they stalled, another group would be executed. After the three days, the troops would invade and kill the royals, before attending to the rest of the civilians. Yushi Huang convinced the old king to pass on the throne to her, before coming out herself the next day, kowtowing three times, and slitting her throat with the sacred guardian sword of Yushi, Yulong. Pei Ming then had no choice but to respect his promise, and leave the people of Yushi, at least temporarily, alone. Just as she took her last breath, Yushi Huang ascended as the current Rain Master.
While the Palace of Rain Master was being contructed, she went to reside in a humble cottage in what was once the Kingdom of Yushi. During that time, the Xianle kingdom experienced a devastating drought, so Xie Lian visited her land to ask for aid. She could not meet him in person since she was still recovering from her neck injury, but she knew of his predicament beforehand and asked her black ox to give him the Rain Master Hat in her stead. Yushi Huang ended up never moving into her palace, remaining in the rural region of Yushi Country. After Xie Lian's mission in Banyue Kingdom, Shi Qingxuan sends Ban Yue to Yushi Huang's territory to protect her from being stolen by Pei Ming. Yushi Huang also meets Pei Xiu soon after while he is in exile. After Pei Xiu had knocked down Qi Rong's lair a few times out of boredom, Qi Rong sent his little squires to kill him. She happens to pass by during the assault and helps him out. After discovering his identity, she takes him back to Yushi so he can recover from his heavy injuries.
